The long and sandy Slapton beach with a calm sea at high tide.

Find My Favourite Holiday Cottages in Slapton

Located on the South Devon coast in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with stretching sands and the fabulously abundant countryside, is the seaside village of Slapton, containing a cluster of charming self-catered holiday cottages within its midst. Ocean-facing pretty white houses nestle on the cliff overlooking the beach. Further to the east, the beach is backed by the Slapton Leys – natural freshwater lakes with abundant wildlife.

Perhaps Slapton’s biggest moment in history came in 1944 when the Slapton Sands was used by American troops rehearsing for D-Day. Look around, and you’ll find various memorials to the men that lived here for a few months that spring before heading to the D-Day battlegrounds of Normandy.

Slapton offers much more than a historical tour. The Mediterranean-style climate makes the sea safe and clean for families to enjoy all year round. There are also plenty of water sports to get you water-borne. Surfing is very popular here, as are wakeboarding and windsurfing. Many activities present themselves, allowing you to get in the water and have fun. And then dry off and relax in your local holiday cottage.

Visit the Start Point Lighthouse, which has guided vessels for years. Standing tall on the south side of Start Bay, it guarded the most exposed peninsula on the English coast. The beach is also picture-perfect, stretching for miles along the shoreline. It is dog friendly and lined with painted multi-colour beach huts. Slapton oozes charm and attractiveness – it’ll brighten your relaxing self-catering holiday.
