Find My Favourite Holiday Cottages in The Stiperstones
Hikes through spectacular boulder-strewn Shropshire landscapes can be enjoyed on the doorstep of holiday cottages in The Stiperstones. Located in the Shropshire Hills, near the Welsh border, it is a wild region with unique geology. The Stiperstones is situated in the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is famous for its wildlife. Look out for rare birds, such as stonechat, red kite, raven and skylark, as well as emperor moths and hairstreak butterflies. Highly recommended on self-catering holidays in the Stiperstones, the Stiperstones Stomp is an eight-kilometre walk, providing breathtaking views from the hill’s rocky tors. At 536 metres, Manstone Rock is the highest of the tors, while the Devil’s Chair is the largest and most famous. Housed in a former village school, the Bog Visitor Centre provides an insight into the area’s mining history. For good food and drinks, head to the Stiperstones Inn west of the hill. The neighbouring town of Shrewsbury is not to be missed, with fine half-timbered architecture in its Tudor centre and a medieval castle.
