Visitors can enjoy a choice of five splendid beaches in the town. Lusty Glaze is a great family beach in a sheltered cove backed by cliffs. Tolcarne Beach is suitable for swimming, gentle surfing for children and beginners, and some splendid rock pools when the tide recedes. Great Western Beach comprises many small coves, and it is best visited at low tide. Fistral Beach is one of the best surfing beaches in the UK, hosting many international surf competitions. Porth Beach is nicely sheltered by headlands on both sides and is accessed by a footbridge. The Harbour beach reveals itself at low tide and is a great sun trap. Seals can regularly be seen sporting in the water around the harbour.

Newquay is home to the great Cribbar, a rarely occurring enormous wave which the local surfers try their hand for ten seconds of fame as they try to surf this beast of a wave. Plenty of other water activities, such as sailing and windsurfing, have locally qualified instructors and equipment to help you improve your skills.

At night, Newquay becomes a lively little place with a wonderful array of bars and pubs offering great nights in and amongst the ‘beachy’ atmosphere.
