Find My Favourite Holiday Cottages in Stocksbridge

The Peak District town of Stocksbridge lies in the Pennine foothills to the west of the City of Sheffield, in south Yorkshire, in the steep-sided valley of the Little Don River. Stocksbridge became a centre for the steel industry during the 19th century, and much of the valley is now occupied by steelworks. The town’s industrial history is documented at Manchester Road’s excellent Stocksbridge Museum and Heritage Centre. There are some great places to eat and drink within walking distance of holiday cottages in Stocksbridge. Ponti’s Italian Kitchen on Fox Valley Way is a local favourite, serving delicious pizzas and pasta. Coffee Apple café is a good option for a slice of homemade cake and coffee. The Friendship is a friendly pub with various local ales and live music. And the Venue is known for its busy programme of live shows.

A short drive south from your holiday cottage in Stocksbridge, the Peak District National Park is home to some of the UK’s most spectacular scenery. The park’s northern section, nearest Stocksbridge, is known as the Dark Peak, with huge gritstone ridges and windswept moorland plateaus. At 2,000 feet, Kinder Scout is the park’s highest peak, with breathtaking views of the surrounding rocks, waterfalls and moors from its summit. The park's southern half is known as the White Peak and is characterised by steep limestone valleys such as Dovedale and Lathkill Dale. The national park is scattered with sleepy mining villages, spa towns and magnificent Elizabethan manors, all of which can be discovered on self-catering holidays in Stocksbridge. Many of the Peak District’s most famous attractions are a short, scenic drive from the town, including Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, the Heights of Abraham, Peveril Castle and Peak Cavern.
