Withymead Cottage
2-Bedroom, Exmoor Riverside Village Cottage. Sleeps 4. Pets Welcome.
Withymead Cottage is an Exmoor cottage on the ground floor, with the owners living above. Its private entrance is accessed down a short pathway from the car parking area, which is suitable for two cars.
The entrance porch has heating, so it can be used as a drying area for wet outdoor clothing and boots after a busy day of walking on Exmoor.
You enter the main open-plan living area with a comfortable leather corner sofa, TV, Freesat box and DVD player. There is also a gas log burner-style fire for cosy evenings indoors. The kitchen is well equipped for dining in, while the dining area will comfortably seat four but can be increased to six. There is also a utility cupboard housing a washing machine and other cleaning equipment.
From the living area, there is a twin bedroom with a TV and a hallway leading to a bathroom with a toilet, bath, wash basin, and overhead shower. A separate toilet with a wash basin is also directly outside the main double bedroom. The double bedroom, with TV and wardrobe, also has French doors leading out to a secure gravelled picnic area suitable for dogs to be loose.

Withypool is a small community but has a thriving 17th-century village pub, the Royal Oak Inn, where it is said that RD Blackmore wrote part of his Exmoor novel, Lorna Doone. American General Eisenhower also used the Inn when planning the D-Day landings.
The village also boasts a lovely and very popular tea room, and across the road is the well-stocked village shop and post office. Orders can be placed with the village shop and collected on arrival if needed. The village church, St Andrews, dates back to the late medieval period. The 12th-century challis font hints that an earlier building may have stood here.
Withypool is a perfect location for exploring Exmoor, the Quantock hills and the Somerset and north Devon coastline. Things to do include fishing, shooting, horse riding, animal safaris, cycling, walking, and climbing at the ‘Valley of the Rocks’ and watersports with a choice of sea, river and lakes
Places of interest nearby include Porlock, Lynmouth, Lynton, Tarr Steps, Landacre Bridge, Two Moors Way, Wimbleball Lake, Dunkery Beacon (Exmoor’s highest point), Croyde Bay, Saunton Sands, and Woolacombe Bay.
