Turnip House, Shropshire

Well appointed, comfortable cottage in beautiful surroundings. Thoroughly enjoyed our week.

Couldn't have been nicer.

We have just got back from a lovely relaxing stay at Turnip House. The cottage is very spacious with large living room & wood-burning stove, kitchen/ dining area, two double bedrooms (1 en-suite four-poster) and two twin rooms, utility area, two fridges, separate bathroom with roll-top bath. We had two patio areas with table and chairs and a BBQ.

The cottage is one of 3/4 on a working farm, with lovely views over the surrounding hills. One of the highlights for me was being surrounded by the lovely animals, especially the horses and chickens. We fed the pigs and horses daily and collected fresh eggs from the chickens. It was surprisingly very peaceful. There is also two games rooms with pool table, table tennis, darts, table football etc. They are also building a large indoor badminton/ tennis courts at the moment (though we were not in the slightest disturbed by the noise). There is a 2 mile circular walk within the farm grounds, which was very pleasant.

Mobile phone reception is not great in this area, but there is a pay phone within the cottage if needed.

As we were staying for a family birthday, we booked a function room at the Royal Oak pub in Cardington for a meal one evening (25 people), which is a 2 mile walk from the cottage. The meal and service were both very good and we were allowed to decorate the room and bring our own cake for desert.

Overall I cannot recommend the cottage highly enough and would love to come back for another visit, the only slight negative is that there were a few cobwebs in the property that perhaps are difficult for the cleaners to reach because of the high ceilings. We also found that some noise came through the walls from next door into the first floor double bedroom.

We were a party of 10 guys staying here - and in the connected Corn House - for a walking weekend. The properties are of a very high standard, very comfortable and in a great location. The owners of the farm are lovely and their two recommendations were great:
1. The local pub in Cardington, which does great food and beer
2. The caterers who they helped me to arrange to come in to cook a 3 course meal on Saturdya night after a long day of walking were superb. We had a delcicious meal and then all fell asleep in front of a lovely hot wood burning stove in one of the sitting rooms.

What an absolute pleasure it was to spend a week in such wonderful surroundings not only the countryside but the barn itself was superb. Great thought had been taken when furnishing the property, and such helpful owners, You could not ask for anything else. Fantastic food at the Longville Arms

Very peaceful, very friendly and helpful owners & fantastic views from the house. Especially child friendly with farm animals on the doorstep (literally), toys, sandpit, games room & safe play areas.

Fantastic countryside, excellent fishing and the most enjoyable accommodation. Plenty to see and do in the surrounding areas if you felt you had to stray from such a perfect setting. Return visits must surely follow in a lot of cases.

Space to wander was good e.g. Kite flying from paddock adjacent to house. View from garden was spectacular. Hills to see & inspire a walk.

An outstanding property in splendid situation.

The property is an excellent standard and a credit to the owners. The surrounding area is of outstanding beauty and ideal for walking.

Great base for exploring Shropshire and Wales.

We enjoyed the views, size of rooms, friendly reception and assistance from owner, tourist info, maps and local walk guides provided.

The owner of the cottage was very helpful. She even took my niece horse riding. The property was fantastic, great for kids!

The rural aspect which was what attracted us in the first place! It was peaceful but within easy reach of lots of attractions. The outlook was marvellous and we could have sat looking out of the living room window to the paddocks with the four horses for hours! The hills and trees outlining this aspect completed a marvelous picture which I have carried away in my mind for future reference when tired or fed up! We've booked for 2006 already!

An excellent property, very well equiped for children e.g high chair, cot, baby gate, toys etc.

Mr and Mrs Jones have obviously paid a great deal of attention to detail and this house has everything you need.
I certainly would not hesitate in recommending this property.

The cottage was fantastic. With 6 adults and 2 kids the cottage still felt spacious and relaxing. Everything had been catered for and it really felt like a home-from-home.

The quality and size of the property was exactly what we needed.
Our friends were in the cottage next door and the properties had a removable partition, this meant that we could comfortably host a birthday party meal for 24 people.
The decor and layout of the cottage was very good.

This was a return visit as we had liked it so much last year. We were not disappointed and the weather was great, which enabled us to take full advantage of the property.

The location was stunning, the owner friendly, helpful and even told the children they could ride the horses. Games room good as was the outside play equipment. Turnip house is lovely with plenty of room and a very comfortable lounge with great views. All in all a great 'get away from it all location' with good walks and attractions nearby.

This is the 3rd time we have used the 2 cottages together and so we are obviously well satisfied. We know the area now and find there is plenty for the whole age range of the family to enjoy.

Excellent barn conversion & general location with lots to see and do in the general vicinity. Very spacious property, well equipped, good portfolio of leaflets / advice for any visitors.

Turnip House was very well equipped. The views from the lounge were superb and there was ample comfortable seating for our party of 6 adults.

Anyone looking for peace and quiet and privacy will love this property and its location.

The location was really good. The house was within the farm which we liked - one could see and touch the horses. The lake and woods were fantastic.

The Cottage was in a great location. Very useful packs of information, maps, local amenities were supplied by the owners.It was a Lovely property. Fresh flowers in kitchen and living room were a nice touch.The Linen and towels supplied were of excellent quality.

Lovely setting, to be able to wander all over the farm (Plaish Park) is a real luxury. Very well appointed barn conversion, a really enjoyable place to stay.

The setting was beautiful, both the scenery and the working farm feel of the place, with excellent facilities (eg. walks and livestock) to use and see. As we hired both Turnip and Corn House with the interconnecting door for a family celebration we really appreciated the space by both cottages.

The cottage was lovely and the facilities were excellent..The owners were very helpful and were dedicated to providing excellent accommodation.We are intending to return next year.The area was good for walking and there was plenty to do.

Second time for us at the cottage and it was even better this year. We had a fantastic week the cottage had everything we required and more. The owners go out of their way to make sure that every detail is provided for. With the added benefit of a new Sports hall being built this property will be excellent all year round. Walking is very good in the area as well as other activities, mountain boarding, quad biking, go karting and cycling - we had a full week.

The cottage is lovely and very roomy. I loved the environment and animals around the cottage (especially the horses). The facilities were excellent, including the games room and wood burning stove.

Very nice indeed! Nice to be surrounded by the hens and piglets - beautiful views too. We enjoyed the table tennis!

An absolutely beautiful property and the setting is perfect. A piece of heaven in the country. We will be going back soon.

Accommodation and location were great. Having a large maturer family this spacious accommodation gave us plenty of room. Additional facilities such as the games room were enjoyed by my sons. It is remote enough to be special but close enough to Church Stretton and the Long Mynd to enjoy the facilities and walking the hills.

Gorgeous location, well equipped, fantastic facilities, really warm welcome from owner who was really helpful. Turnip house is the kind of place you could return to again and again and suits all different seasons.

Good facilities for a range of age groups. Family friendly and welcoming. There was a lot to do without leaving the property. Good in all weathers.

Everything! The position of the house, the beautiful area, lots of things to do on the farm and all the games equipment. It was particularly good for the children aged 4 and 6, they had a whale of a time. We have booked again to go in November 2013!

Turnip House was furnished to a very high standard with everything you would ever require. The owners were extremely helpful. The property and surrounding area are stunning. I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a truly relaxing holiday in a stunning location.

Away-from-it-all location, nice open views from spacious and sunny sitting room, and cosy when the wood burner lit The house had a very nice flow, particularly liked the kitchen, dining space, and my bed was very comfortable. Kitchen about the best equipped we have ever had! Good extra facilities - the go carts, table tennis and toys for youngsters.
No meanness on the toilet roll front!

We have enjoyed a wonderful weekend at Turnip House. We went with our two children, their partners and our grandchildren. The house is perfect for families. The owners have clearly thought of everything you could possibly want and need. We will certainly return.

The cottage was excellent, thank you, and we enjoyed our stay. We did not need all the facilities available but we enjoyed the views and walks. It was an excellent spot for our planned visits in the area; we hope to come again.

It was a fantastic venue for a complete family holiday. Caters for infants to elderly. Everything you could want - games, sit and ride toys for all ages. My 20 month old granddaughter loved the cars and grandad loved the go-carts and tractors. Everything you need in the cottage - infant toys, board games, books, crayons and cuddly toys. Games room with table-tennis and billiards so ideal also for teenagers.

Comfortable and well-equipped. The house was an ideal place for touring the area, there were many fabulous walks, places of interest and small towns within easy reach - something for everyone.

The sitting room is amazing, with a wonderful view of the hills, a cosy wood burner, squishy sofas and a double height ceiling. Our family loved it.

The accommodations here were perfect. Everything we could possibly need was there for our use. We will definitely be back and will recommend to any other friends/family visiting the area.

This is a hidden gem. A wonderful peaceful location set on a working farm. We were accompanied by our daughter, her partner and our two grandchildren, aged 1 and 2 years, they thoroughly enjoyed seeing the animals and the various play activities. Nothing was too much trouble for the owners and the local information supplied was excellent.

This was a fantastic property which catered for your every need. The property was set in beautiful surroundings and had pigs, chickens and a pony which the children adored. Also there were go-karts and two games rooms which the older children enjoyed. So a fantastic find!

Everything was supplied in the cottage, it was warm clean and very comfortable. Our second and not the last visit we hope.

What an absolutely amazing place. The owners were fantastic and allowed open access to their superb farm. The accommodation was of a very high standard, with every potential need covered. The facilities overall are excellent and certainly far superior than in any other cottages we have stayed at. We definitely plan on returning.

We loved Turnip House. It was spacious, comfortable and perfect for a family party of three generations. There was something for everyone. The location was wonderful too. Being on a farm we were expecting lots of restrictions but apart from having to keep the dog on his lead, as it was lambing time, we were free too make use of all the facilities. The grandchildren loved it. The family who own the farm couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. Would definitely return.

Everything in Turnip House was lovely and the property was equipped with everything we needed.

This was our second visit to Turnip House and it was just as fantastic as the first. Superb accommodation, surroundings, scenery and the added bonus of being on a working farm. A fabulous time was had by all.

We couldn't fault anything ! Ideal location with facilities for all ages and spacious accommodation. Wish we could have stayed all summer. Will definitely be booking again!

Turnip Barn was a fantastic base for our mixed group ranging from 13 to 77 plus two dogs. We enjoyed all the facilities, particularly the tennis court and games room, and there were numerous lovely walks from the door. The standard of the accommodation was excellent - we particularly enjoyed a glass of wine or two on the terraces each evening looking at the lovely sunsets. There is lots to do in the area, all within a short drive. It was very difficult to leave. Thanks to the owners for thinking of everything.
