Coquet Cottage in Northumberland
Coquet Cottage features a regal master bedroom with heavy wooden furniture and traditional touches alongside a single room with chic urban design – and it works.
The careful conversion of this traditional mid-terrace in Amble-by-the-Sea sees traditional rural furnishings blend seamlessly with sleek modern touches in a seaside cottage in Northumberland.
The king-size double features a wooden bed, TV, and faux fireplace, while the twin room has a subtle design. The décor of the single room belongs in a hip urban pad. The modern bathroom features a bath with a shower over, basin, and WC.
The well-equipped modern kitchen makes cooking a breeze and leads to the light-filled dining room. The sitting room offers a gas fire and leather furnishings that complement the traditional ensemble. It also contains a TV with Freeview, DVD, CD/cassette/radio.
Central heating allows guests to enjoy Coquet Cottage all year round, while guests can also count on WiFi, off-road parking and a washing machine.
The small, rear, furnished patio invites repose and includes a BBQ, while the village of Amble-by-the-Sea serves hearty pub meals and is famous for its harbour, marina and sandy beaches.
A visit to Warkworth and Alnmouth is also recommended, while the remainder of Northumberland lies waiting to be explored.

Coquet Cottage in Northumberland
Reviews
Convenient location and the cottage has everything you need but.
...the Victorian/gothic style doesn't lend itself to bright and comfortable.
The kingsize mattress needs changing, as feeling its springs in your side was so uncomfortable that we put the duvet on top of the mattress, which helped, and slept with 2 single duvets from the other bedroom. The fusty smell of the bedding was evident for a couple of nights. Some surfaces in the bedroom were quite dusty. Mind you, the house has lots of stuff to dust!
The massive, gothic style, bed footboard(?) is so big that you have to be careful squeezing between it's pointed corners and the wall to get in it. Much better if it were a divan. (and no, I'm not that fat - not now, anyway!). At the other end of the bedroom a very large easy chair prevented easy access to the drawers of the wardrobe and the central mirror of which doubles as a very in-effective dresser, with no stool, as there is no dressing table (or stools) in any of the bedrooms so doing your hair is very awkward. (my wife does hers every day...yawn!) The TV up on the bedroom wall was a bit small but OK if you don't mind a cricked neck.
The bathroom is a decent size but the elecric shower's lack of volume is only adequate at best. There are two extending shaving mirrors...excellent...I could position them such that my bald bit was clearly visible - first time I've ever easily seen it! :) The towels are on the small side and although there is a radiator in there you can't use it to dry the towels on as its got a shelf on it.
The dining room is a good size, with a big table, as is the lounge, which has a nice open coal effect gas fire, although the decor and heavy drapes to the smallish window made it a bit dark.
The compact kitchen has electric hob and large effective microwave/halogen oven.
All our meals apart from breakfast we had out. Locally, I can highly recommend the food (and wine) at the Wellwood arms within easy walk. (it also has free wifi). The pub owners also own the recommended Zecca's restaurant on the other side of the street.
one of the best
wow, this cottage was one of the best places to stay and be able to visit many of the most fascinating and beautiful coastlines in this country. We visitied many places and always felt as if we were returning home after a good day out.
We will use Sykes cottages again as everything was as it says on the tin so to speak.
Gorgeous Cottage
Gorgeous well equipped tasteful cottage in a lovely quiet street, location great for visting Alnwick,Alnmouth etc. We had a lovely stay very relaxing,I would definately recommend this cottage.
Great location, lovely house, nicely presented
We had a great time and found the accomodation very
good for our young family.
We found everything we needed and the information
packs and leaflet were useful too.
We would recommend this property to other people and
we certainly consider going back another year.
Great little place in amble
We had a lovely week in amble which was partly down to the location of the house and the house itself. The owners have clearly tried to make it something special and it was equipped with everything we needed. Before we arrived we were provided with clear directions so it was easy to find and always easy to park nearby.
We would definitely recommend it to friends and we hope to be back ourselves sometime.
Fantastic Holiday
My husband and I with 3 late teens daughters came to stay and despite the terrible weather we had a wonderful week, the cottage is lovely with a warm and homely feeling and very comfortable. Amble is a good location for exploring Northumbria we visited Seahouses, Bamburgh, Alnwich Castle and Gardens which is a must for anyone in the area, we even went to Beamish which was another fantastic day out. All in all would definately recommend cottage and area
Cottage met all our requirements and exceeded them in terms of a
The Cottage was very spacious and well equipped (there were three adults). We were very happy with the furnishing and layout of the house and it fitted all our requirements. The cottage was well situated for shops, restaurants and take-a-ways within walking distance of the cottage. It was a little further from the sea than we expected but the area was reasonably flat which suited a disabled person. The cottage was also central to Northumberland for exploring the area by car. The garden was very small and would be a squeeze to accommodate a full household.

Homely, Amble great location, mostly good.
We booked through the owner who advertises this cottage on their own website. It is quite a large terraced house, rather than a cottage, with large sitting room, dining room, bathroom and a tiny kitchen downstairs. Upstairs is another bathroom with shower and three good sized bedrooms. As such useful for a family stay.
When you enter the house it feels like you are staying in a friends house for the week rather than an upmarket holiday rental. It has everything you need, but don't expect a conventional oven - the space for one is taken over by a washing machine / dryer and a dishwasher - probably more use when you are on holiday, and there are two combination micro ovens to make up for this.
I feel the description of the 'garden' is misleading as it has a tiny tiny yard, mostly occupied by wheelie bins. If you want outdoor space then head down to the Harbour instead!
A previous comment is that you could feel the springs in the bed - what I think you feel are the buttons in the mattress which do give the impression of a somewhat lumpy bed, however saying that we slept really very well on the bed - I have a bad back which does not react kindly to a poor bed and it did not give me any jip at all!
Most of the rooms are nicely decorated, but I do think the bathroom and kitchen could do with updating to improve the impression of the house. We thought Amble was a great location, more unspoilt than Seahouses, and it provided us with a great base for touring. I think the house is good value.
The Cottage was fantastic. I would definitely visit again and again.
Easy access to major routes, close to excellent beaches, great information about area at cottage.
A very comfortable cottage, very convenient for all the castles etc. Very happy to be there.
The area was beautiful and there was so much to do. Amble itself was a lovely town with everything you could possibly need on our doorstep. We particularly enjoyed hiring bikes and cycling along Druridge Bay.
Very central, close to all amenities. Lots to do nearby - many beautiful places to visit. All in all an excellent location for a holiday.
The cottage was very well equipped, cosy, warm and inviting. It is in a good location for visiting the area and there are enough grocery/butchers etc. in the town. Good range of games for the children and plenty of books to read.
The interior of the cottage was excellent and it was a very homely place to stay. Amble was a good base for touring round the area.
We had a great holiday, we would definitely go back.
We had a lovely time, we had fabulous weather, and we were "castled out"! The house was nice and friendly, clean and well furnished.
I like Amble very much, position of cottage was ideal for shopping and the harbour. I am a big fan of all areas of Northumberland, and like to visit at least once a year.
The cottage had everything and more! Lovely furnishings, very much a home from home.
Really good location & lovely house.
Close to coast & easy access to Newcastle/trains to Scotland. Well equipped with everything required. Good relaxing time & friendly neighbours.
An excellent cottage in Amble, ideally placed to explore Northumbria.
Amble is a great base from which to explore the Northumberland coast, and so Coquet Cottage is well positioned, and is wonderfully furnished into the bargain.
Lovely cottage, very well equipped. The coast is quite breathtaking. Great time.
I loved the "old-fashionedness" of the property. The decor of the master bedroom and living room is beautiful.
Excellent cosy cottage in great location for exploring all Northumberland has to offer. Would highly recommend Alnwick Castle and Gardens, only 30 minutes drive away. Buy the combined 2 day ticket, great value. Kielder Water is also worth a visit, although a bit further away. Holy Island is a must, a beautiful, peaceful place.
The position of the property was brilliant for sight seeing.
Super location, near all of the places we wanted to visit and in a lovely small town. Cottage was small but very well set out so there was plenty of space for the three of us.
Very homely, comfortable feeling. Felt the owner had thought of everything. Great base for Northumberland. Thank you, we will be checking places for next year via your website.
The accommodation was comfortable and well equipped, the location was ideal for accessing local amenities and for visiting the many attractions which Northumberland has to offer.
This was an excellent house, well furnished and looked after. The property was quite large, spacious and provided an excellent base to relax. Well positioned for visiting Northumberland.
Beautiful, tasteful, well-equipped cottage in a quiet part of the village.
We chose Amble because we know the area. The house was excellent and had everything that we know. All sorts of information for everything.
The holiday was very good, the cottage was warm, clean and homely. It had everything we needed and more. Good location for all we wanted to see - good value for money.
Coquet Cottage is warm and cosy and we looked forward to coming back to it in the evening after a day out. Great regional location with superb beaches/wildlife and countryside - so much to see and do. Great local shops, restaurants & facilities. Everyone we met was pleasant & friendly.
Cottage was particularly cosy and homely and the location was perfect for our needs.
Staying in a lovely house in a small town by the sea with easy access to the Northumberland coast. I had forgotten how beautiful it is with it's rolling countryside, expansive sandy beaches and dramatic castles. We will be back!
The cottage was very nice and well equipped and the owners were very helpful. It was an excellent location for touring the area, we visited Alnwick Castle and Gardens, Seahouses, Bamburgh and Beamish to name a few. We had a wonderful week and would fully recommend the cottage and area.
A cute cottage in a great location.
Close to eating places and takeaways and central for exploring the area.
I think the property is in an excellent location for touring about. I think a little under priced for the size of property.
It did not take too long to get there and we could get all over Northumberland easily by car or public transport. Amble is very picturesque and an ideal base from which to explore.
The bed was the most comfortable bed the wife has ever slept in. The house was convenient for all amenities. Comfy living room with lovely fire, would recommend to anyone.
We enjoyed the actual town of Amble and the cottage was handy for the town. It was also a very quiet relaxing holiday for us which was exactly what we were looking for.
Convenient situation for restaurants, take-outs, shops, beautiful vistas, castles, harbours, beaches, quaint villages, pubs, farms - an artist's paradise! Did lots of paintings!
Very comfortable property that was well located for travel around the North-East. Parking outside is hit or miss but there is always somewhere on the street. Well looked after and very warm and inviting property. Lots of room for families. Had a great stay Thank you.
A lovely stay, we wanted for nothing. Brill!
A well situated and appointed cottage, would return. Amble is a lovely place to visit. Well placed for all Northumbria's attractions.
Nice, clean, well supplied throughout - most enjoyable holiday and love this area.
Very good location for visiting all the local attractions and the people were friendly and helpful.
The cottage was very comfortable and well appointed with everything we needed. The location was excellent, within walking distance of everything in the town and a good base for touring. We would certainly consider returning.
Everything was great! We felt at home, warm, quiet, cosy and well equipped. Amble, Alnwick, Dunstanburgh, Morpeth etc. are great locations that are worth visiting.
