The Shipwrights, Whitby

A well situated 'cottage' in a modern development a short distance from the town centre. Sitting near the river the area is quiet and has no through traffic and is ideal for supervised children (river1)with a small playpark diectly in front of the cottage.

The cottage itself is very well appointed and well decorated throughout. Even for the most exacting individuals this place is absolutly superb. Roomy with a games room to let even the oldest child hide away for some fun. Well equiped modern Kitchen and very clean and tidy when we arrived. Loved the showers.

An easy walk from the busy town centre and the Abbey it is a great base for travelling around the local area. The car parking also means that you don't have to battle with the traffic in Whitby!!

As it is on three levels it may not be suitable for guests who are a bit less mobile. This is a cottage I would recommend without hesitation and would be delighted to return to. The owners should be commended for the quality of the cottage.

This is a clean, well decorated house, within easy walking distance to Whitby town centre. It feels like a home and not just a bare holiday let. A lovely place to return to in the evening. We were lucky enough to meet one of the owners of the property, who was very pleasant and checked that everything was to our satisfaction. I can't think of anything bad to say about it. I can only recommend it.

The property is clearly a fairly recent new build, and had all the ammenities that you could wish for. The home is split on numerous levels, advantageous if a large number of occupants are staying at any one time. The property is immaculate, spacious, welcoming and is the ideal base for a stay in Whitby itself with the centre being a lovely 10-15 minute walk along the side of the Marina. We have stayed in a number of Sykes properties now over the recent years and this one ticked all the boxes where we were concerned.

This was an excellent house for a family. There were 8 of us but there was plenty of space and we were not on top of each other at all.

I am reluctant to write too good a review or it might not be available when we want it again!

An excellent week with good weather. Close proximity to Whitby centre. Would recommend it to anyone.

This was a really nice, clean and well maintained property about 10 mins walk from the centre of Whitby. The house was great and the town and surroundings had enough to keep two kids occupied for a week. We are looking forward to returning to Whitby next year

Excellent location, parked the car up and didn't need to get back in it until it was time to come home. Property perfectly matched our familys needs, although would suggest a larger bed, king size or super king in the main bedroom. The room is big enough to take one and would make more comfortable. Would definitely book again.

Comfortable well equipped and large modern house. Owner's very helpful. Good location if you don't mind walking half a mile to Town and the position means you escape Whitby's traffic problems.

Great space if you have children and teenagers with you.

Lovely house in an ideal quiet location. Great parking for two cars no need to take them into town as its just a 10 minute walk away. House great loads of space and kids loved the games room on the lower floor. Plenty of rooms we had 3 adults and 2 kids and never even used one of the bedrooms. Kitchen area is great with a large table and plenty of seating in sitting room. Playground across from house is great too. Would recommend shopping at the local Lidl store. Would definitely recommend this property to others.

Lovely house, with plenty of space, apart from the living room, which wasn't that big, but we made a lot of use of the large kitchen so it wasn't a problem. Nice garden, and a small play park just a few steps away from the house, which is ideal for younger children. Great location - about 10 minutes walk to the centre of Whitby, and what a bonus to have two car parking spaces.

This property is spacious, warm, comfortable and well equipped. All of Whitby's many shops, restaurants and other amenities are within comfortable walking distance. 2011 was our second visit and we intend to book again for 2012.

Service excellent. House spacious, well equipped, lots of unexpected extras, everything needed to cater for a house full of all ages.
Location perfect for us with play area opposite and parking for two cars. We like South side of Whitby, only 5 mins quick walk away, flat route better for pushchair. Downstairs separate area ideal for young couple, ensuite perfect for us who paid the bill.
Everyone, from the 2 year old to the 67 year old loved the decor, tasteful, yet out of harms way, carefully positioned for safety yet with maximum impact. The spacious living room, kitchen and corridors enabled the youngsters to let off steam despite the typical Whitby weather

The house is in an excellent position to the town and for car journey to Scarborough and Robin Hoods Bay, lovely walk into town. Beds very comfortable house amenities very good.
Car parking for two cars a bonus, our ages ranged from 69 - 8 years old and it suited us all extremely well. Having wi-fi was good also.
Having left a sleep comfort teddy behind on leaving, Sykes and the property owner could not have been more helpful and resolved our problem within an hour - finding the teddy and with the promise to send it on..... happy holidaymakers.

We have just stayed here for a girls get-together and it's fab! Lovely place to stay: clean, comfortable, plenty of space etc. Fantastic location, just a short walk into the centre of Whitby. Will definitely recommend and stay again!

Clean and modern throughout,spacious bedrooms/kitchen/living room.
10 minutes walk from Whitby centre, 5 minutes to the nearest pub and chip shop.
Main living room and kitchen and bathroom on the first floor, one bedroom and toilet on the ground floor and 3 bedrooms - one with en suite on the top floor, parking for 2 cars. Nice little courtyard garden too.

I was on holiday with my elderly mother and three sisters. The house was extremely convenient for us. We could leave my mother in the house whilst we walked into town. Whitby is an interesting little town, and has some interesting shops. It is a good base for exploring Yorkshire.

...Within walking distance to the town centre/beach etc, yet in a peaceful, private development. A most attractive courtyard garden with BBQ facilities.

Never been to that area before so was good to explore new territory. Loved Whitby and York.

The house was absolutely first class and in a great location near Whitby centre and the harbour.

The weather was good, the property was well equipped, very clean and had everything you could need.

I have stayed at many holiday homes over the years and I think that the Shipwrights in Whitby is one of the best, its location is ideal for everything you want to do on your holiday. The Shipwrights really made our holiday, the owners of this property take time to make sure that everything is just right.

The address was ideally situated for easy access to the "hub" of Whitby itself, with a walk of only 10/15 minutes in total to reach the beautiful shops/restaurants of the town itself. The " Shipwrights ", being a mere few years old was an ideal "base" as reflected in many of its former visitors comments in its " visitors book " and is one that i'd wholeheartedly recommend. Not wishing to sound like a " raincoat " train enthusiast, I recommend a steam driven train journey on the old line from Pickering to Grosmount...its superb!

Small playground opposite house is very useful. Mister Chips is a great place to eat out.

We enjoyed the property very much & would have no hesitation on returning or recommending the property.

Property was of a very high standard. Very child friendly. There was also a fenced playground just opposite the property. Lots of room for a large party. A short walk into the centre of Whitby.

The house was very large, even for 8 of us. The large table in the kitchen was a real focus point for all the family to gather at different times. It was also situated in a lovely area within 10 mins walk to the main part of Whitby.

Well what can I say, another excellent holiday at The Shipwrights. This is becoming a second home to me, ideal location. The accommodation is second to none and I have already recommended this property to friends and family.

Excellent family accommodation in a quiet neighbourhood overlooking the River Eske. Beautifully planned and planted courtyard garden. Play area opposite ideal for small children. Excellent meal at 'The Red Chard' in Whitby.

Ease of walking into Whitby centre. The house would accommodate 3 generations of family comfortably. Ease of parking two cars. Quiet residential area with a play area for young children.

Clean and well maintained house which acted as a good base for activities. Easy walk into Whitby and the beach from the property - enough to do in and around Whitby to keep the family entertained for the week.

The position of the property was ideal for walking into the old and new part of town. The property was very clean - I usually wash all crockery before using when I rent a cottage but I did not do so in this case!

Ideal modern property - plenty of room, great games room, utility room is an added bonus, everything we needed was to hand. Great for parking and walking into centre which is about a 10 minute walk. Great kids playground opposite. Had a great stay and would definitely recommend to others especially those with families.

Whitby was excellent as usual and the house was equally excellent and in an ideal position for walking around Whitby. That we had to come home is the only downfall.

The cottage was spacious, comfortable and had a nice garden The two parking spaces was a real luxury in Whitby.

This accommodation was safe for our little ones. They could be confined in the garden and the safety gates inside made our holiday more relaxing. We felt like we had our own private part of Whitby, away from the hussle and bussle!

This property is ideally situated in a quiet location within walking distance of Whitby town centre.

The location of The Shipwrights is great - nice and quiet, easy access arrangements, short walk to centre and attractions as well as the bonus of parking for two cars. We have stayed in a few places in Whitby and for the standard and the budget this is the best yet.

This was our second visit which we thoroughly enjoyed. The location is perfect with 2 grandchildren aged 4 and 6. We will most certainly be returning as there is a small play area apposite the house where you can actually sit and watch the children from the living room window.

The accommodation was beautifully decorated and very clean. Proximity to the centre of Whitby a huge bonus. Kids loved the park across the road.

Great place to stay, first class house -all aspects to a very good standard, lots of room, very good value. Really good base for walking into Whitby and touring North Yorkshire. The weather was very kind.

The Shipwrights was a great holiday home. Children's playground directly opposite, brand new Sainsburys just around the corner and home of the most fabulous fish & chips...what more could you want?

Perfect large family/mixed group accommodation, although the stairs were a bit of a strain on our elderly relatives (who struggle with stairs anyway). Accommodation had a lovely 'home from home' feel about it. Excellent location.

A very comfortable stay. Parking for 2 cars on site. Nice dining kitchen which was well equipped. Bathrooms were very nice too. Would recommend to any large group, thank you.

The Shipwrights had everything we needed close by. There was good parking right outside the front door, a lovely lounge where we could all sit and relax, and a good kitchen with a table large enough for us all to sit and craft. A lovely house we loved visiting.
