Find My Favourite Holiday Cottages in Bridport

A former fishing town, Bridport, has now evolved as a rather lovely market town west of Dorset and has much to appeal to the visitor. It is a good base for a holiday home to explore the West Dorset Heritage Coast and some delightfully quaint inland villages. The port is no longer in use, and the sea has long since retreated (you'll find it a few miles down the road in West Bay). The town nestles amidst ravishingly beautiful hills and rolling green countryside. Visit its bustling local market, which is held every Wednesday and Saturday throughout the town streets.

For culture lovers, the Bridport Arts Centre, in a large converted chapel, offers a range of live events and exhibitions all year round. The chapel is one of many architecturally impressive buildings that add to the charming character of the town centre, together with its many small independent shops, many of them selling local organic produce. For the visitor, there are many Bridport holiday homes surrounding the town, perfect for either a holiday base for day trips or a peaceful bolthole.

A strong sense of community surrounds this small old market town in West Dorset. An intriguing museum in the town centre recalls the town’s colourful history from its Roman origins, while Palmer’s Brewery offers tours and opportunities to sample local ales.

As a town, there is a strong passion for food. A food festival is held there annually, and the town itself was used as a base to film Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s Channel 4 television programme River Cottage.

It’s a five-minute drive to the sea at West Bay, which has a traditional harbour and spectacularly golden sands stretching out in a picturesque curve around the stunningly blue still water. It is part of Dorset’s Jurassic Coast, which hosts incredible rock and cliff formations that genuinely take your breath away.
