The Cider Barn Near Bridport

Dog-Friendly Farm Cottage on Dorset’s Jurassic Coast. Sleeps 4

Surrounded by open fields in a Designated National Landscape, The Cider Barn sleeps four guests in two bedrooms. Cider is no longer brewed in this lovingly converted barn. It is now a tastefully furnished, warm, cosy holiday cottage combining modern conveniences while retaining much of the barn’s character, such as its original oak beams.
The Cider Barn overlooks the original Hembury Mill, which still boasts a working water-wheel
The living area seats four on comfortable sofas, and should conversation lapse, there is a TV with a Freeview, a DVD player, and a CD player to play with. While the whole house is centrally heated, a basket of logs is provided to fire up the woodburner in the lounge between October and April.
Seven external steps reach the kitchen and dining area. This sizeable open-plan space has a vaulted oak-beamed ceiling that accommodates kitchen and dining areas. The kitchen incorporates new appliances, including a dishwasher, washing machine, fridge-freezer, electric hob and fan oven, microwave and toaster, plus all the necessary utensils to prepare breakfasts, lunches and dinners for four. If required, an iron/ironing board and vacuum cleaner are available, as are a cot and high chair.
Bedrooms comprise a master bedroom with a king-size double bed and fitted wardrobes on a flagstone floor. The second bedroom also has a flagstone floor, twin beds, a wardrobe, and a travel cot.
To the rear of The Cider Barn is a fenced and gravelled area with BBQ and furniture for outdoor dining on warm days and evenings. This area leads to an orchard, a lovely landscaped garden containing the original Millpond and leat. While the gravelled area is enclosed, children should be supervised in the orchard garden due to the presence of the pond, mill leat and streams. There is off-road parking for up to two cars, one within a carport alongside the cottage, meaning no long-distance manhandling of heavy suitcases when arriving and departing.
Hembury Mill is nicely located in some lovely locations along the Dorset Coast for days out. The attractive seaside resorts of Lyme Regis and Weymouth offer traditional bucket and spade days on the beach, while smaller seaside villages well worth a call are West Bay, Burton Bradstock and Charmouth.

For walkers - well, spoilt for choice is an appropriate phrase. Take a calorie-burning stroll to the iron-age fort atop nearby Eggardan Hill for superb ‘Hardy Country’ views, or walk stretches of the Dorset stretch of the South West Coast path along cliffs above Chesil Beach.
