Duror
North Devon Coast and Countryside Cottage With a Fishing Lake. Sleeps 6
Situated in the beautiful North Devon countryside just a few miles from the magnificent, award-winning beach at Woolacombe, Duror Cottage is a child-friendly 3-bedroom holiday cottage in North Devon, sleeping up to six located at Lower Aylescott, where six rural holiday cottages share the communal facilities, including two well-stocked fishing lakes and a new outdoor children’s play area.
Duror Cottage in North Devon has been beautifully renovated, incorporating classic character features such as exposed stone walls with modern-day comforts. The large open-plan living area is wonderfully spacious. It has been nicely divided into a comfy lounge with a wood-burning stove, a dining area and a well-equipped kitchen featuring a fridge, oven, dishwasher and a washer/dryer.
On the cottage’s first floor are the three bedrooms, two doubles, both with king-sized beds and a pretty twin with two full-size single beds. All the bedrooms share the refurbished bathroom, which has a bath with a shower overhead, a WC and a wash basin.
Outside, Duror has a private terrace with a table and chairs for alfresco dining. From the terrace, guests have direct access to the communal grounds. There are over 4.5 acres of grounds that guests are welcome to roam and explore. The field has a fantastic new children’s play area and goalposts. Gates secure access to the two lakes, but parents are advised to supervise children at all times.
All guests at Lower Aylescott are welcome to fish the two private lakes, which are only available for guests and are well stocked with carp, rudd, bream, and tench. Please remember to bring your license, rod and bait.
Lower Aylescott, in the pretty village of West Down near Ilfracombe, is ideally positioned for guests looking to enjoy North Devon’s best beaches. Numerous attractions are easily accessible for children, including Watermouth Castle, Exmoor Zoo and The Big Sheep. Families can also enjoy time at Arlington Court and RHS Rosemoor. Alternatively, the North Devon Coast is home to some of the country’s best beaches, with Woolacombe, Croyde and Saunton a 10-20 minute drive from the cottage. For something a little different, The Tunnels Beaches in Ilfracombe have a tidal pool perfect for families with little ones.
Exmoor National Park is less than a 30-minute drive if the coast is not your preference. Explore the park on foot, discover some of its local wildlife, or stop at one of the many tea rooms for a traditional cream tea.
Lower Aylescott is just a mile from West Down, where a good village shop and pub exists. For a more extensive range of shops and places to eat, Braunton and Ilfracombe are nearby and offer a wide choice of culinary establishments, from UK-award-winning fish and chip shops to Michelin-starred restaurants.
