8 Tawney House, Matlock

A fabulous property set in a convenient location to explore the Peak District.

The location was perfect for us and we loved the decor and layout of the apartment.

We loved the location and the extra touches the apartment had to offer.

We had a lovely time. The property was very good and just what we needed. There is a great park nearby for the kids.

Everywhere we wanted to see was not far away, plenty to see and do virtually on the doorstep. Our accommodation was superb, would go back again and will definitely recommend to family and friends.

Apartment was in an ideal location with lots of attractions close by. Great views from the apartment and an easy walk into the town of Matlock.

The accommodation had everything we needed for a really relaxing break, no need to rush out to the shop for that one thing you always seem to forget.

How easy it was to get to attractions from the property, how close it was to the park and how easy it was to access all the restuarants and pubs in Matlock. Liked all the information left about attractions and also the books, games and DVDs left by the owners.

Absolutely lovely and spacious flat, excellent standard for the price asked. We loved the huge living space for our 10 month old to enjoy. The bed was very comfortable. Conveniently close to town and with parking space. We would definitely consider renting this place again.

Beautiful view of the church and roof tops from the light and airy lounge. Pleasant walks, particularly through the park. Convenient local bakery, fish and chip shop and pub!

A really fantastic apartment, clean, roomy and with excellent facilities - we could have easily lived there full time! Very good value for money. The owners were very friendly and welcoming and the coffee shop underneath the apartment was an added bonus, we loved the lady who runs it, and the cake. We've already recommended the apartment to family and friends who are very interested.

Third time of staying at 'Tawney House' and it was as good as ever - warm, clean and comfortable.

The apartment was perfect for our first family holiday with our 6 month old daughter. It is beautifully furnished and maintained and has a lovely amount of airy space in the living area with stunning views out of the window.
We were extremely comfortable there and it was a brilliant base for our exploration of the Peak District. As a bonus the shops of Matlock are also in walking distance.

8 Tawney House is in a convenient location. Cafe, pub, newsagent, fish and chip shop on the doorstep as were bus stops with a good local bus service. Just a short walk through the park to the town centre. The owner gave us a warm, friendly welcome. The booking process online was easy. Very pleased with the service from Sykes.

We loved staying here. It was much more spacious than the pictures suggested, so a nice surprise. The owner was very friendly and child friendly. It felt very homely and ideal for two children, and was very well located. Excellent all round.

The apartment is centrally located for all the attractions in the area and there are some lovely walks from the door. We hardly used the car at all. The apartment was bright and spacious and was very well equipped. The owners were very helpful.

We enjoyed all of it, the place is fabulous and in a great location, we will be returning.

The apartment was very homely, sunny and spacious. It was modernly furnished and beautifully decorated with traditional stone features like the windows. It was well equipped with most things including children books.

The pictures of 8 Tauney House don't do it justice. It looks much better in real life and the views from the living room alone were beautiful. We liked the little touches, such as fresh milk and chocolate biscuits. The host was very friendly and kindly gave us a later check out on the Monday morning, so we could get up a little later, which was appreciated. The area was lovely too, Matlock and Matlock Bath are both very pretty. We spent some time walking between the two, before venturing out to Chatsworth Estates, enjoying the views! We would recommend 8 Tauney House to friends and would consider returning again!

Property was set in an ideal location for local amenities. Well maintained property, and was exactly as described, so no hidden nasty surprises on arrival. Warm welcome from hosts.

Very restful. The central location made getting into Matlock very easy. We travelled about by bus and saw a lot of the Derbyshire countryside. The local shop and the fish and chips shop were very convenient!

The apartment was very comfortable, and central to all the amenities. There was a lot of interesting places to visit, even to just stroll through the lane to the park, and enjoy coffee and tea cakes at the little cafe.

High standard of property, closeness to centre of Matlock yet quiet, welcome from owner's father plus friendliness of other residents in the block. More than met our expectations. Cannot fault either Sykes Cottages or the owners of the property. Very satisfied with our stay

A well appointed, well looked after property. The parking is shared by others in the block, but we never had a problem getting parked. It was close to amenities in Matlock, the centre of which is a pleasant stroll through the park. Convenient for buses to other places in the Peak District - useful for OAPs with bus passes!

This is the fourth or fifth time I have stayed in this apartment, it is ideal for my requirements. It is very comfortable and always immaculate. It is in an ideal location for me to get around the Derwent Valley and beyond with excellent local facilities (shops, cafes, excellent pubs etc.).

The accommodation is of the highest quality. It is an ideal location for visiting the Derbyshire Dales. Communication with the owners was, as ever, perfect.

The apartment was perfect; warm, cosy and comfortable. It was perfectly situated to travel around Derbyshire. There was a bus stop immediately outside and the station within a 10 minute walk. No problem parking. Perfect.

The cottage is ideal for Matlock. There is a great kids play area and park 2 minutes walk away and a nice pub opposite. The cottage was very good to stay in with everything we needed. It was a shame to come home.

We loved the open plan living / dining / kitchen area. It is very spacious and comfortabe with all the comforts of home.
The location is perfect for us as we have friends and relatives in the area and its a lovely stroll into Matlock through the park.

The issues we had were the noise from the traffic outside, the old lead windows are beautiful but could do with double glazing and the air vents on the walls in the bedrooms made a lot of noise too. Apart from that we loved it and would definitely stay again.

Agree with previous review re the noise from the busy main road outside and also the vents in the bedroom but otherwise a very very nice apartment. Just be aware that parking in the daytime can be a bit of an issue to the office downstairs but we found that we were out usually then anyway. Very convenient for Matlock itself being able to walk to the pubs and restaurants. Childrens play area (with paddling pool if the time of year is right!) short walk away and handy to have the cafe downstairs too. Lots of leaflets on the area in the property and good fish and chip shop just across the road. We were there for a wedding and the taxi rate to County Hall was very good too!

Second bedroom is really only suitable for one older child or adult but would be fine for two little ones with the pull out bed.

The location was excellent for just strolling through the park along the river right into the centre of Matlock and having private parking at your front door you could explore the Peak district and always know that you could get parked when you returned to base

We really enjoyed our stay in the apartment - it was in beautiful condition with modern furnishings and everything you could need! Matlock is a great location for reaching many of the attractions of the Peak District including Chatsworth and Dove Dale.

Location was excellent for exploring the peak district and if that was not enough, the accommodation was ideal- spacious and comfortable. I would recommend this place to anyone- if fact we have already done so!

This was the 3rd time this year that I had stayed in Tawney House, so you can see that I reckon it highly!

Behind the flat was a lovely park & you can walk through this to the shops in Matlock town, which is such a great town.

Having a oap bus pass we could get to many places without using the car. Derbyshire is such a lovely county with many great walks.

What a wonderful apartment in a great location. After a stressful journey on Christmas Eve we arrived at this super clean apartment with a bottle of sparkling wine and luxury chocolates to greet us, even a bottle of milk in the fridge
The apartment is very well equipped to the highest standard and there are lots of extras there to make you feel at home.
The area is steeped in history so lots of things to see and do. Check out the guest commentary book as there are some great tips for eating out etc in there.
It was our first Christmas away from home in 25 years and they had put up a tree to make it feel homely, the stay turned out to be a very enjoyable experience.

Well where shall I start. Firstly the place is nothing like the photos, it looks clean and well kept but thay certainly wasnt the case. As for hairs in the bathroom, that has got to be one of my biggest gripes with places - especially for the amount we paid to stay here, id have expected more.
To be honest from day one it was a bad experience, the lady owner was a nightmare I didnt stop getting in touch with me and visiting. I came here for a 2week vacation with my fiance - that certainly isnt what I got.
All that being said, matlock is a nice place, but Id stay somewhere else in future.

We needed at short notice somewhere here to stay for the weekend for a wedding. We have a 4 year old and a baby, who at the time was 7 months old.
We were unsure of this place because the photos suggested the apartments were a bit built up and the flat weeny. Neither turned out to be true at all. It was spacious, tastefully done with excellent facilities and lovely views. Both boys were very settled here and there was a very warm welcome. We would definitely return

Just returned from a wonderful weekend at this property. Key collection arrangements were most efficient and we entered a warm, clean, comfortably most welcoming apartment- exactly as shown in the photos. The position was excellent- just minutes away from the park and the town centre shops. There was no problem at all with noise despite celebrations for the Victorian Christmas weekend. being in full swing. The double glazing in the main bedroom was excellent and there was no evidence of the noisy air vents mentioned in some other reviews. We never met the owner showed us in and both he and the people we met from other apartments were all most friendly. Matlock and the surrounding area have much to recommend them and this apartment is a great base from which to explore.

A well located apartment, clean, tidy and comfortable. The hosts made us very welcome with little touches of a pint of milk and box of chocolates. Although the parking area tended to get busy in the early morning we were not affected as spent the days out visiting Dovedale, The Heights of Abraham, Carsington Water and Crichton. There are steps which you need to climb to gain access so possibly not suitable for all. There is a lovely well maintained park just 5 minutes walk which leads you into Matlock centre. We would certainly consider visiting this apartment again in the future. It suited the 3 of us well.

We stayed at the flat in May 2014. It was clean, spacious, comfortable and well equipped. It was only a short walk into the centre of Matlock through a very pleasant park. The provision of milk and biscuits on our arrival was a welcome touch. The flat is part of an old building converted into flats and is accessed via a set of external stairs. The flats have a dedicated car park. Although there is no car park for the sole use of this flat we had no trouble getting parked. This is a good base to explore the southern Peak District. There are good bus connections which we used to visit Bakewell and Buxton (the advantages of an OAP bus pass).
The description does say that it sleeps 4 but the second bedroom is small and may be quite cramped for more than one. This didn't affect us as we did not use the second bedroom. Would recommend.

The flat was walking distance to town.The flat was bigger than in the pictures. It also had board games and some toys. It was very thoughtful to leave chocolates and champagne for new year & the Christmas tree was still up. We had a lovely stay.

Lovely clean apartment. Within walking distance to the centre of Matlock with restaurants and pubs. There is one pub just across the road and a local convenience store. The apartment had everything we needed and there was easy parking. The key collection arrangements were fine and the welcome was great.

Apartment has all the things needed for an enjoyable stay. Complimentary tea, coffee, milk & biscuits on arrival. Spacious lounge/kitchen/diner & well equipped. Comfy beds & overall very clean. Beautiful peaceful church view from lounge windows. Roadside location but not noisy. Really friendly helpful manager. Happy to recommend.

Key collection was hassle free.
The car park for the apartment residents ensured we never had any problems parking.
It is a fantastically situated apartment - 2 minute walk to the park & 5 minutes into Matlock.
The Peak District & Derbyshire are a beautiful part of the country & well worth a visit.

The apartment was both beautiful, very comfy and in an excellent location. We immediately felt at home and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to friends and family. It was a superb apartment in a brilliant location, just a short walk from the centre of Matlock, near shops and pubs, with plenty of nice walks in the surrounding area. The owner had thought of everything, even putting a Christmas tree and ornaments in for us. It was warm and very comfortable and I would be happy to recommend it to anyone. We had a fabulous time.

The flat has a great position. It is situated near a lovely park with swings, paddling pool and boats. It is a few minutes walk into the town.
