Scotch Hall Cottage

Scotch Hall Cottage offers guests the rare opportunity to holiday in a Grade II-listed detached property situated by a canal and next to a World Heritage-listed aqueduct. The Pontcysyllte Aqueduct carries the Llangollen Canal over the River Dee, and its form fills the windows of this delightful cottage near Trevor.

Exposed beams feature in the twin room and the two doubles, one of which includes a TV. The modern bathroom contains a bath, shower over, basin and WC.

The kitchen and dining area are elegantly furnished, and the light-filled sitting room offers comfortable furnishings and a gas coal-effect fire. The whole family can relax in the sitting room and watch the TV with FreeSat, a DVD player or bring out their board games and cards.

Central heating makes pet-friendly Scotch Hall Cottage an attractive option in any season. Guests are also provided with WiFi, off-road parking, amenities for young children and laundry facilities. A gravelled area with seating can be enjoyed in the summer months, and the pub next door provides an ideal location to enjoy a meal and a drink and watch the barges float by.

Why not hire your own barge and ply the canal and visit Trevor, the Vale of Llangollen, the National Trust properties of Chirk Castle and Erddig? Take a brisk walk and admire the view from atop Castell Dinas Bran.

Please use the Visit Website buttons for further information to make an enquiry or book Scotch Hall Cottage. When enquiring, please tell us you found this Llangollen holiday cottage in Denbighshire on the My Favourite Holiday Cottages website. Thank you.

Outstanding position with all amentities to hand; superb local butcher only 5mins drive away. Property wonderful and quiet although next to pub. Owners very prompt in delivering key on arrival and helpful if needed. We will definitely visit again.

Everything and more !!

Fantastic cottage, with absolutely everything you could possibly need.
The cottage was spotless and perfectly placed for the wonderful aquaduct, and pub next door.

A pub for your next door neighbour - a plus or a minus?

The pub in question is almost attached to the cottage, so not far to walk for excellent pub food and welcoming staff. On the other side is the canal, a busy stretch with lots going on including boat hire if you are so inclined. Not for the faint hearted if you steer towards the aquaduct mind, you need a head for heights. (An unfenced sheer drop to the river over a hundred feet below). With all of these hazards this isn't the place for young children, but couldn't be better for adults - walks along 2 branches of the canal from the door, as well as that pub..
The house itself is very well presented with everything you could possibly need. Snug and comfortable. There are steps/stairs and funny little low doorways on the upper floor but our 6'4" family member didn't have any problems even though his bed was under the beams!

Fantastic place to stay.

Phoned to arrange collection of keys and was told we could get in early and pick up the keys in the pub next door so we were able to drop off the luggage and get a nice cold cider to sit in the sun with as soon as we arrived. The owners popped in later with a bottle of wine which was a nice touch and checked that everything was ok. The cottage itself was lovely and cool even though the weather was the hottest few days of the year so made a nice place to retreat to when sitting watching the canal boats and walkers in this beautiful setting. The rooms in the cottage are all well equipped and comfortable, the shower is excellent with loads of power and kitchen contains everything you could imagine should you want to get cooking (but if you try the steak pie in the pub next door you wont want to bother cooking again). There are plenty of places to walk around the area direct from the front door although if you don't like heights the walk in the Chirk direction will get an extra mile or so added as you avoid the aqueduct which is the main feature of the area although its well worth walking over it for the view alone.
Although the cottage is next to a pub (well its virtually in the beer garden) there is no noise at all that can be heard inside the cottage which makes the pub a bonus as you can have food or drink whenever you want to relax, and if the beer gardens full its quite nice to step into your own garden and sit at your own table and chairs as the world passes by.
Would I go back here.......I'm thinking of booking it next year as well.

BRILLIANT

Lovely location and you can take dogs, Owners lovely and just next door to lovely pub, been a couple of times and would love to go back soon.

Sheltiegirl35

It was a great place to stay

The owners were very patient as we got seriously lost and mobile batteries on low. And very late as the Pub had shut. We were made very welcome by the owner and we had a very warm time in November. We hope to go there again very soon. Nothing to do with the Telford Inn literally next door where the Hosts were very friendly. Very relaxing place. And everything you need. The only traffic is the barges. Don't go sleepwalking as the canal is a few yards away from the front door.

David W

Could have been lovely, but was damp and not very clean

KazSE

Lots of interesting places to visit in the area. The children particularly liked Farm World and the horse drawn boat trips on the canal.

The surrounding countryside was beautiful and the walking was excellent. The cottage owners also own the pub next door and they were extremely helpful and welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed our week and the cottage was cosy and comfortable.

Very well located for access to locations in England and Wales, ie, very close to Chester (20 mins). The people were very friendly and the cottage was very close to canal. The pub food next door was very good indeed.

The location was excellent and the cottage very well equipped with all modern amenities. The Hosts were most helpful at all times, providing us with details of local suppliers in the area and we had some very good food in their pub.We would most certainly consider going there again in the future, possibly for a longer holiday and have recommended it to several friends since our return. Now that we know the standard you can offer we will certainly also look at other properties on your books in the future.

We have stayed here 4 times and the standard has always been excellent. The owners have completely redecorated and refurnished and it is very luxurious. The surrounding area is so pretty and the views from the cottage of the hills and the canal are spectacular. Good food in the pub next door and very friendly local people. Looking forward to returning soon.

Mrs Knight

Mr Sykes

We all thoroughly enjoyed the cottage. The location is excellent for touring the area.

Mrs Gaga

Location by the canal and surrounding areas was fantastic. The property was very good value, considering heating etc. was included. The weather was cold and the cottage was lovely and warm with plenty of hot water!

Great property, perfect location for easy canal strolls or as a base for North Wales.

Mrs Paintin

Location and views excellent. Food from pub next door excellent quality and good portions.

Mr Gillespie

Had a lovely time - the cottage was really cosy and in a really lovely setting. It was great to be able to walk out of the cottage and step onto the canal towpath.

Miss Watts

The location of the property was fantastic. Right next to a pub and the canal. Cottage was brilliant. It had everything that you needed home away from home.

The cottage was clean and had everything you could possibly want. It was warm and inviting. A friendly welcome was given when handing over the keys (including a bottle of wine!!)
Would recommend this to anyone who wished to be near a canal and pleasant countryside

Aqueduct and canal fascinating. Although the property was situated next to a pub it was surprisingly peaceful.

Miss Herbert

The cottage was excellent, the location was excellent, we had a wonderful time. Well done Sykes and thanks to the owners for letting us stay in their wonderful cottage.

Mrs Smith

Location of the cottage was very good. Loved being next to the canal and having the option to use the pub next door is an additional attraction.

Mr Daubney

A very comfortable cottage and I would love to return. The 'Telford' pub was on our doorstep, very friendly and good food. Our dog was also accepted. There are plenty of areas to visit.

Miss Deavall

The location was lovely. The house was pretty much perfect for our needs - a bunch of friends wanting to spend Christmas together. The owners were very helpful and all of the locals we met were welcoming and friendly and fun.

Ms Macneil

We loved how the cottage was directly next to a pub! We thought the cottage was so lovely and cosy, perfect for us and made our New Years Eve very enjoyable! We didn't want to come home!

Lovely spot and would visit again. A genuine piece of Welsh history and a very well equipped cottage.

Ms Owens

Comfortable cottage, very conveniently situated next door to friendly pub with good food. Nice area with good walks all around and lovely people. Everyone passed the time of day with a smile.

Mrs Maguire

A wonderful location, right on the canal basin. Very quiet, even though it is in the grounds of a pub. Beds very comfortable.

Ms Nzerem

The position of the cottage is in a beautiful spot, interesting and peaceful. The cottage itself was in an excellent state of repair and decorated tastefully.

Mr Thomas

Excellent location, busy on the canal by day but quiet and peaceful at night. Loved all the wildlife. Fantastic cottage, well equipped, comfortable beds, warm and welcoming.

Ms Lewis

Great location, quiet even though its on the canal basin and next to the pub. The cottage does not get any noise from either although sitting in the garden you will speak to nearly every customer walking from the tow path to the pub. The location is excellent if you want to walk along the canals as both Llangollen and Chirk are only a few miles away along a totally flat tow-path.

Mr Whitehouse

Scoth Hall Cottage was everything we could have wished for, it was so lovely. The location was excellent and the people at the Telford Inn next door serving meals was amazing.
We would certainly love to go back and would not hesitate to recommend to anyone.
