Bryn Howell Stables
Charm can’t even capture everything the Bryn Howell Stables presents as a large cottage on a 19th-century property with original wooden beams renovated to create a deliciously cosy environment for holidaymakers. Visitors won’t get over the exposed beams in three bedrooms: one with a king-size bed and en-suite shower, basin, and WC, and two twin bedrooms with bath, shower, basin, and WC. Oil central heating and under-floor heating in the kitchen provide much comfort.
In-house dining comprises a double electric oven, hob, microwave, refrigerator and freezer, and an enclosed garden and patio for dining alfresco and barbecue parties. Its kitchen is fully equipped: a double electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge and freezer.
Entertainment facilities are available through a television, DVD player, and Wi-Fi connectivity that’s best for browsing. Conveniences are afforded through off-road parking for two cars, bike storage, a washing machine, and a dishwasher.
This property is in the beautiful Vale of Llangollen, a pretty tourist town. The World Heritage Site Pontycysyllte is two miles from here, while a canal is just twenty yards away. Those staying longer can take a day-long car trail to visit six of the “Seven Wonders of Wales.” A shop and a pub are a five-minute walk from here.

Fabulous Cottage - Wonderful Owners
Quite simply, one of the most amazing cottages we have ever stayed in. We were the first paying guests and literally, nothing was too much trouble for our charming owners. The cottage is perfection itself - big enough, warm, extremely well-equipped and tastefully decorated and furnished. Very welcoming to outdoors types - providing dry and warm storage for wet, muddy walking boots and 5 mountain bikes. The view from the kitchen window is to die for - I spent long periods watching the ever changing weather and the impact on the view.
The had never met the owners before, but we wish them very best wishes - they deserve to do very well with the beuatiful haven they have created. We've already recommended the cottage to several friends and hope to return next year.
A wonderful place in a beautiful setting
Such a homely feel to the property, with lots of personal touches and exceptional fixtures and fittings. It felt very spacious for the four of us. It was a little far away from the locations we were wanting to visit; that's no fault of the property or our excellent hosts, but Welsh roads made eveywhere we visited (mainly north coast) at least 90 minutes away. We would thoroughly reccommend this venue.
Exceeded our expectations.
Met on arrival by owners who were extremely welcoming. We didn't have to trouble them during our stay but they were always around. The accommodation was very comfortable and well equiped. The location for us couldn't have been better for a "get away from it all" break. Mutley the dog was happy but even our two teenagers were able to chill and enjoyed the walks and peaceful surroundings. Llangollen of course is a very pretty town and serviced out needs. We were blessed with some beautiful weather but even if it had not have been good we were quite happy to walk and relax which this holiday offered in abundance.
Perfect.
Absolutely lovely accomodation, with everything you needed. Beautiful location, will definitely return.
An enjoyable stay with penty to see and do
The property provided comfort and cleanliness and suited both old and young in our party. The location suited short and long walks with plenty of attractions to visit locally.
great location lovely holiday home
Great time was had by us all especially our Springer Spaniel in the canals! Hope to return soon.
Fantastic!
This is our 2nd visit and we love the cottage,it is clean and perfect for dogs to have their own garden to run around in. The area is peaceful and the owners are helpful and friendly if needed,we did not see then all week but they live in a house in the grounds of the cottage you rent so there is no problems with them checking you and feeling watched,so I would say this is a perfect holiday base with a quiet and peaceful garden to sit out in and have wine in the evenings! There are some good pubs in the area and Sainsburys near by for a big shop,we did find a new Tesco's but this is not signed posted so can be hard to find, once you find it you are fine, there is an Hotel just across the bridge by the cottage and the food there is very nice, but some of the pubs near by are hit and miss so look a bit further away. We hope anyone who chooses this cottage feels the same way about it,you will love the setting and peacefulness of the cottage.
It was a really comfortable home from home
My husband and I stayed with two friends while the International Eisteddfodd was on in Llangollen. The cottage is next to the canal and we were able to easily walk into Llangollen along the canal path. One of the highlights of our week was hiring a canal barge for the day and travelling across the aqueduct, a bit scary at first but well worth it. We also went to Portmeirion which was delightful and on to anglesey where we had a superb lunch one day.
The cottage itself was really clean and had everything we could have wanted. We were there in 'Summer'time but I would think it would be very cozy for an autumn/Winter break. There was a very welcome tea tray laid for us when we arrived with home made flap jacks.
The cottage is in a quiet spot but close the the Bryn Howell Hotel if you want to eat out within a couple of minutes walking distance. We did not eat there. The garden at the cottage is pretty and has a bbq and outside seating area if you are lucky with the weather. We sat outside for breakfast most mornings because the views are lovely.
Overall we had an excellent time (not even marred by the weather which was not very good for a lot of the time)
The people that we we dealt with when booking the holiday with Sykes Cottages were very pleasant and helpful
Peacefull haven
The cottage was a little hard to find as the sat-nav location does not take you to the house, using google streets sort of helped and the owners additional instructions helped. Once found though it will never be forgotten, set in beautiful woodland with early morning mists and the sounds of a nearby stream and the chugg of the narrowboats comming by and surrounded by wildlife it is a must for those who crave peace and quiet. (I shouldn't really be telling you this!) I am a writer and found my whole time her inspirational. The cottage was warm, comfortable and set out well. I am also walking disabled and managed the place very well all though there are alot of stairs to the bedrooms there is amble waiting areas and handrails. Good lighting. The only downsides were the on suit shower doors are fixed and even the thinest body's would find it hard to get in with out difficulties. Also the sofas are really uncomfortable. I and my family would like to revisit this place one day.
Very relaxing
The owners were very welcoming and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. The house was in a fantastic setting with great walks from the door along the lovely canel. The location could not have been better, a short walk from Llangollen or the viaduct in the other direction. Very dog friendly holiday. Would love to visit and stay at this superb accomodation again.
A wonderful retreat with views to die for and all home comforts
A lovely property, ideally located to explore the wonderful welsh countryside.
Clean, spacious and welcoming. The beds and sofas were very comfortable .
No negative points whatsoever .
Just as described in the brochure.
Jo
The location was great, just a short stroll to the canal and walking distance to hotel if you want to have a drink or eat out. The cottage was very comfortable and spacious. Very quiet with fantastic views. Owners were very friendly. Only negative was the size of the bath towels.
As good as before!!!
This was the second stay with our grandson at the STABLES, this time with another friend and her son. We had a pre-holiday planning meeting (over a glass of wine of course) and told her all about the cottage, the surrounding area, places to go and eat and other things to do. All I can to my review of 2013 on how really good this property is, is that our friend said that we had met all her expectations. Therefore......say no more. It's a lovely cottage in a great location....so give it a go.
Fantastic location
The views are stunning! Right next to the canal too so walking into Llangollen or Trevor Basin is very doable. We took the bus into Llangollen too as the bus stops just at the top of the lane.
Easy walk to Bryn Howell Hotel and the Sun Trevor.
Gorgeous Victoria sponge waiting for us.
I was disappointed in the standard of cleanliness. Cobwebs were in abundance, very dusty furniture and the toilet bowls were black, as was the inside of the kettle!
Overall we enjoyed our stay.
Fantastic cottage, great location, good for children and dog!
Cottage was clean very well equipped and had a homely feeling which we loved. The children loved the location next to the canal, they could wave to barges as they went by. There is a pub that you can walk to for an evening meal if you dont want to cook. We had wonderful weather while we were there so after a day out exploring we would light the woodburner and relax. We are going to return next year.
Superb, thanks for a lovely autumn holiday!
Stunning property in an amazing location with a view to die for! Superbly located for a day trip on the canal, we hired a narrowboat and tied up almost alongside! Great for outdoor types with storage offered for muddy bikes and boots!
Great private location with views over open countryside. Canal a few metres away. Well appointed cottage - a great place to relax. Patio catches the sun in the afternoon. Good walks from the door step - no need to move the car all week. Quiet at night except occasional owls and sheep! Dog friendly owners.
This is a beautiful cottage in a lovely location. We could not fault one thing -excellent. We will definitely be booking again, everything was perfect. Thank you.
Friendly welcoming owners. Excellent condition of property. Superb garden and front facing view of Dinas Bran, a 13th century ruin. Very good location, lots to do with young children, two very good National Trust properties nearby - Erddig and Chirk castle. Also the Aqueduct and Steam Railway at Llangollen. River Dee with excellent access at Llangollen for children to walk on the exposed river bedrock.
The cottage was done to a high standard!
Nice and quite, lovely location. Enough to do for all ages within a short distance of cottage.
The remoteness of the cottage without being too far away from civilisation! Liked the accommodation, the countryside, the walks along the river and the canal and Llangollen town. The holiday was idyllic and a complete chill-lax for Mum, Dad and two teenagers who amazingly had a good time too and it was of course doggy heaven!
We loved the location with its beautiful views and tranquility yet only a short distance to the bustling town of Llangollen and its many attractions. The delightful accommodation made our holiday for us and we have already decided to return.
Very good facility & the location was what we needed. Very friendly & helpful owners!!
Very peaceful and yet a good centre to visit places.
We found Bryn Howell Stables to be a very comfortable cottage. It was lovely to walk our dog straight from the cottage and watch canal boats pass by. We would certainly recommend this cottage to family and friends.
The cottage is in a beautiful location; not overlooked and really peaceful. The overall standard of the cottage was excellent. Very clean, modern and bright. Lovely. Would definitely like to return.
Fantastic property, warm and cosy. Owners very friendly and welcoming.
Lovely cosy, relaxing cottage. The sitting room with the fire and soft sofas were very relaxing. The cottage was also spacious and full of character, in a very quiet, relaxing location. A nice, safe outdoor area for children to play.
What a fantastic house! We could walk along the canal and there was a very nice hotel, this saved us cooking when we stayed in. We are looking to book it again next year because you'll never find such a warm and welcoming home that makes you feel like your at home.
The accommodation was excellent which made the overall holiday that much better.
The location was also excellent.
Fabulous views from the cottage and peaceful, tranquil location.
The accommodation met our needs perfectly and the location was excellent.
Peaceful location, lovely views and comfortable, clean accommodation. Very friendly owners. Many good attractions in vicinity to visit.
Fantastic cottage in a lovely spot. Very welcoming with a home made cake as a welcome present, I would not hesitate to recommend this cottage to anybody who is after a very spacious, comfortable, welcoming and relaxing place to stay.
Perfect spot by the canal meaning we didn't need the car on most days. The barn conversion was well done and made for a very relaxing stay.
The cottage was in a fabulous location alongside the Llangollen canal with breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. An ideal location for a relaxing holiday. The property was very comfortable and the fixtures and fittings were of a high standard. We loved the wood burning stove.
We had a fantastic time again this year, this is our 2nd visit. The cottage is a good size with plenty of books, games and DVD's provided if the weather keeps you indoors. Tesco supermarket is very near the cottage and therefore you can stock up on food and drink at anytime. The owners are very helpful. This is one of the best places we have found and would be very happy to recommend to others.
The cottage really felt like a home from home. The additional touches such as the fresh flowers and cakes on arrival were very nice and much appreciated. The situation of the cottage was very peaceful and very near to the canal which made for an easy walk to Llangollen. We hired a barge for the day and travelled across the aqueduct which was fantastic and just a little scary.
Loved the location, nice size of property for a holiday and very clean and modern. We would definitely return.
We particularly liked the location of the property.
A good location near to the canal - ideal for the dog.
I have visited many a holiday cottage and they have mostly been very good. This cottage gets 120 out of 100 from me and my party. This is the best cottage I have been on holiday in. Give it 6 stars.
Everything was excellent; our second first class stay at Bryn Howell Stables.
Excellent location, very well equipped and comfortable. Owners very friendly and helpful. Overall one of the best cottages we have stayed in in recent years.
Fantastic relaxing break in super surroundings.
Canal-side location with excellent tow paths.
The location of the cottage! Being able to have a view out of the window while sitting in bed with an early morning cuppa.
Welcomed with a big cake.
A wonderful break.
Very reasonable and everything was provided. An absolutely fantastic, faultless property.
The setting, along side a canal with lovely walks in both directions. Very handy for the nearby hotel. Great views out of the window and peaceful location.
Good location, close to canal for good walks into Llangollen and Trevor. Easy access to nearby hotel and pub, both providing a good menu.
The conversion was very well done. The views from the front of the property was breathtaking. The canal was situated next to the property which was excellent for walking and riding a bike.
The details in the brochure did not do justice to the cottage, a lovely cottage in a superb location, lovely old hotel across the canal with excellent food very reasonably priced and friendly staff. We could move to the cottage and live there!!
We loved the complete privacy of the cottage. The cottage has been planned extremely well, you feel as if you are the only people around. The scenery was fantastic, even the weather was kind to us. It was very dog friendly with lovely walks from the door. A 15 minute walk to the nearest pub which served really lovely food and is dog friendly ! We will definitely return ASAP !!!!! loved everything about the place and its surroundings.
Stunning location, the area is beautiful and the property is within easy reach along the canal side into Llangollen. The property itself is spacious and comfortable.
Very cosy. Lovely location. "Sun Trevor" - good value food for families. Aqueduct canal a must see!
Excellent accommodation could not fault it in any way. Five star!
Lovely cottage, great location and peace and quiet.
Cottage was home from home. Very comfortable, peaceful, plenty of long walks along the canal.
Lovely surroundings, very welcoming, plenty to do and safe for the dog. Property had lots of character and the history of the place was really interesting. It had been cleverly renovated and the owners were welcoming and helpful. The area is beautiful for exploring during the day and the log fire fantastic to relax by in the evening.
Excellent location and a well thought out conversion. Lovely and warm and enough space for everyone.
Very comfortable and well equipped holiday accommodation. Beautiful views. Lovely and quiet. Lovely position so close to the Llangollen canal. A great base to explore the area.
Comfortable, spacious accommodation in a beautiful location. No problems encountered. We thoroughly enjoyed exploring the area and returning to a warm, pleasant cottage.
Property was excellent, peaceful and great for walking straight from the door.
The position of the cottage - it was private, but not remote. Fantastic views of the hills and castle, had good access to local towns and amenities. Many local attractions if one likes walking/hiking and industrial heritage such as canals and railways. We found lots to do. The cottage was extremely comfortable and homely, the owners very helpful and friendly.
What a beautiful cottage with the most fantastic views. The owners were very helpful and there were some lovely walks and places to eat. The cottage was well equipped and very clean. We would not hesitate in staying there again.
The property was exceptional and was in an idyllic setting. The surrounding countryside together with the close proximity of the canal and aqueduct made this location perfect.
This cottage had everything we needed plus more! Beautifully furnished with good quality fixtures and fittings. very friendly and helpful owners. Gorgeous setting. Couldn't have asked for more! We have self catered for quite a few years and this is by far the best! Total relaxation and actually we found we didn't need to use the car apart from shopping trips. Lovely walks along the canal. Thanks for a great stay.
This cottage has quality fixtures and furnishing. The little extra touches made for a memorable stay. This cottage was warm cosy and comfortable.
Beautiful cottage in an excellent location. Very cosy, wish we could have stayed for longer.
A fabulous place to stay, we have found a gem.
Peaceful, beautiful countryside with lovely walks along the canal tow path. A very comfortable cottage.
My wife and I have holidayed in the same area for the last 4 Spring Bank holidays. This was the second time we had stayed at the Bryn Howell Stables, this time with two other friends. We had presented it to them as an ideal property in a fantastic setting just right for us adults and 2 boys. It was great to know that we had not let them down as they thought it was just how we'd described it. So much so they want to return with us, so plans will have to be made. We do realise that a great holiday in the area can be weather dependent, the gods of good weather were smiling on us as the weather this time round was an improvement on previous visits. Amid frequent games of football, Frisbee chucking and archery was educational enlightenment.
We found Bryn Howell Stables a very comfortable and well equipped cottage. It was very well situated close to places of interest in the area. We would certainly consider a second visit to this cottage and can recommend it heartily.
This is the second time we have visited the cottage and we were not disappointed. The Cottage is very homely and the owners are on hand if needed. The views from the cottage are beautiful. We would highly recommend this cottage to others.
A delightful cottage in an amazing location.
Really enjoyed our time at the Stables, the cottage was excellent, and situated right next to the canal. Would recommend the cottage to anyone visiting the area.
A fantastic location and wonderful cottage, ideally set for a brilliant holiday. Would definitely go back and spend more time here. The owners are very friendly and make you feel very welcome. Would highly recommend this cottage.
The property was just as described; peaceful and right next to canal which was just ideal.
A really pleasant and comfortable property. A good, enclosed garden for the dog and excellent views. We slept well in the good beds and had everything we needed.
A lovely location and lovely feel to the place.
We all loved it.
