West House in Middleton-in-Teesdale

This cottage far exceeded our expectations. Beautiful setting great location amd wonderful accommodation. Owner couldn't have been nicer.One of the best cottages we have stayed at. Would highly recommend!!

Loveliest cottage we've stayed in. Thoughtfully decked out with all that ws needed, and more. Very friendly owner, who brought new-born lambs around for the children to feed.

This was our first Christmas away from home, and my wife and I wanted to show our children what Christmas is like away from the city. The cottage was beautiful, we all loved the wood burner, comfy beds and thick stone walls. It was made even better by the snow! The owners were fantastic, providing lovely touches such as decorations and a beautiul xmas tree, fresh eggs and logs. I would recommend this cottage to anyone!

The house was everything we could have asked for.
Following the cancellation of another property in the area at short notice, the owners of West House couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating. Fresh eggs, milk and biscuits all left for us, spacious, comfortable rooms, excellent heating in the teeth of very cold wintry blasts and to top it all a super-king size bed for a great nights sleep.
We highly recommend this cottage to anybody, it met our needs and more.
Hopefully we may book there again next time we visit our relations and friends in the North East.

A lovely friendly welcome made by the owner. Lots of advice given regarding the beautiful walks from the cottage .
Furnishings in the cottage were beautiful , straight out of the Country Living magazine. Large Kitchen , well equipped with everything for a lovely holday .
We didn't need the car once we got there as the village shops catered for everything we needed.
The cottage was in such a good location for High Force & Low Force Waterfalls . A splendid walk from the doorstep .
Off road parking . We could not have asked for anything more .

Loved this cottage was spotless. plenty room for kids to play outside, lovely view when sitting at patio. Bedrooms smashing bed to big l couldn,t kick my husband when he was snoring. will be back felt to relaxed when l got home

Stayed for 2 nights New Years Eve and New Years Day and it was a real relaxing treat. The house was spotless and so very welcoming with everything we needed, even a bottle of prosecco to toast the New Year. Landlady popped in to say hi and make sure we had everything we needed, she even took the time to give us the best routes to go for a morning run with our two young children too which was really appreciated. Both adults and children loved our stay from the warm cosy atmosphere to the nice walk into the village where we were greeted by the friendly locals....some great places to eat too.....

This was the second time we've visited the West House that is owned by a very friendly couple, Sally Ann and Andrew Teward. The cottage is made of local stone and has been fully modernized inside to a very high standard. It contains a huge kitchen/diner, two cozy reception rooms and a bathroom and two very large bedrooms upstairs. The cottage has stunning views from every window and it's not unusual to see the likes of rabbits and pheasants roaming around. The town of Middleton In Teesdale, has all the necessary amenities. For a market town, Barnard Castle is a short drive away. For the keen angler, the Tewards have fishing rights to a section of the Tees River and welcome anglers. The Grasholme Reservoir is only 3 miles away and offers great angling for reservoir trout.

Peaceful, relaxing, beautiful views from cottage, lots of walks and car rides on the doorstep.

Peaceful setting over looking the hills from the lounge and bedrooms. We are looking at booking again in the very near future. Well done.

Excellent cottage in wonderful location. The owners were very welcomming but not intrusive.
Very clean and pretty town, had all basic ammenities, easily accessed on foot.

West House was a lovely welcoming place to stay. It was very clean and well maintained having all the required modern amenities but still retaining both character and charm.

The cottage situation was excellent. The car didn't move from arriving on 16 May to departing on 23 May. The cottage was warm, comfortable and well- equipped and the views over the Tees valley are first class.

Very high standard of accommodation.

The hospitality of free fresh farm eggs on arrival was greatly appreciated. A nice family cottage. Very spacious. Information pack for guests was very thorough and useful.

We love the location, small but lively village. The area is beautiful, rural with sheep and cows. The cottage is delightful, old world charm but with comfortable furnishings, bedding, beds, kitchen very well equipped. The owners are very thoughtful and nothing seems too much trouble.

The very pretty village is within walking distance and has a butcher, baker and co-op, plus tea shops and pubs. South facing garden over fields with lovely terrace and table and chairs.

This cottage is stunning and you feel at home straight away. The views and wildlife are excellent. There is a log burning fire which adds to the homely feel. 5 minutes walk into the village. A perfect break.

The cottage was simply stunning, the surroundings were breath taking. The owners catered for all needs perfectly and there were wonderful Christmas touches throughout including a beautiful tree. We had a magical time in West House!

The size of the cottage was better than our expectations. The super king size bed was most comfortable. The central heating kept us nice and warm through the wintry weather. Excellent accommodation all round, and Middleton proved to be an ideal centre for our needs. Finally, even though we booked with only 2 days notice, everything was prepared, and particularly enjoyed the fresh eggs, milk and biscuits thank you.

The property was very comfortable and welcoming with all the home comforts you expect at home but with the added lovely scenery and the warmth of a log burner. A very enjoyable stay at the cottage.

This is a fantastic property with a great location for enjoying days in and days out. The owners are available if you need them but leave you alone if you don't. Middleton has all the amenities you need and is a great base for traveling further afield.

Excellent cottage and a brilliant location. The owner is brilliant and the little touches such as eggs and biscuits are lovely. This is our second visit to West House and we will return in the future. The service Sykes offer is excellent and we will book again with them for our holiday next year.

It was in the countryside but a short walk to town. Very friendly hosts with extras left for us, nice touch. Beds very comfy with lovely linen.

It is such a fantastic location but the property itself is also brilliant. There were so many lovely touches from the owners too - milk in the fridge, flowers on the table and eggs from their chickens. We can't rave about this place enough!

The cottage is a beautiful Yorkshire stone cottage with lovely views from the house and garden of the surrounding hills. It is within walking distance of a village where you can buy all necessary provisions. The cottage owner is very helpful and welcoming even bringing eggs from their own chickens.

One of the best cottages we have visited. Friendly welcome, very well furnished etc, excellent location, views and proximity to the village. Visit the Strathmore Arms at Holwick for good food, a unique experience.

Central location for many attractions. Fantastic and very welcoming pubs and restaurants within walking distance, glorious views from the cottage. My friends and I were only there for the weekend but could easily have stayed the rest of the week. Having breakfast whilst watching the many different species of birds in the garden, and the lambs frolicking in the field opposite was a joy.

Very comfortable cottage. The owner called soon after our arrival to check that everything was in order. She was friendly and very helpful regarding places to visit and pubs and restaurants for meals. Very quiet, a good place for a relaxing holiday.

A well equipped cottage with every thing you needed for self catering. It is furnished well in keeping with the cottage and very homely with plenty of room for 4 Adults and 1 child. We particularly loved the separate dining room come reading room, a place to be on your own if you wanted to, or for family dinning. We really enjoyed our stay.
