Near Bank Cottage

My wife and I found the well equipped cottage ideal for our needs. The cottage was clean, warm and comfortable. Situated at the edge of the nature reserve it is peaceful and has walks right from the door. We liked the enclosed garden which was handy for our dog and relaxing in the evening.

We very much enjoyed our stay and the house was in very good condition and very cosy - it was the second stay there.
I am surprised this survey has arrived after so long!

We had a wonderful week here. The garden is very private and catches the sun all afternoon.
There are a number of walks directly from the door.

Lovely cottage, cosy, clean, and well equipped. Beautiful countryside around, excellent walks along the coastal path, pretty harbour.
Worth visiting - Paxton House, Dirleton Castle, Cove, Berwick-upon-Tweed and Edinburgh (take the train from Dunbar).

An excellent location for walking and relaxing. The house was woderful.

The whole experience was lovely. The cottage was spacious and spotlessly clean, and in a lovely position. We spent ages sitting out in the pretty rear garden, and we loved the cattle and sheep trotting past the front door in the mornings!
This is a place to relax in, with wonderful countryside and everything you need really. I loved it.

Quite simply a little bit of heaven on earth. We loved it so much, we came straight back and rebooked for later on in the year - What better recommendation is there?

The area is utterly beautiful and the situation of the cottage made getting about so easy.
The cottage itself was brilliantly equipped, comfortable and cosy. We loved every minute and will come back.

A lovely dog-friendly cottage, perfectly equipped and tastefully decorated. So nice to have a roaring coal fire on a chilly night. Cottage is surrounded by wild life and it was an ideal location for some serious chilling with cattle and sheep for neighbours. Just a step away from the coastal walk [which turned out to be a bit hard-core on a windy morning.] Lovely little village of St Abbs is a pretty spot with friendly locals. Next village of Coldingham has a couple of great pubs & is also dog friendly: especially the New Inn. One of the few cottages we would return to.

In an area of lots of opportunities we made - in our third visit to this cottage in we think 9 years- full use of our break visiting towns, coastal communities etc etc. It is a fair trek from Dorset but frankly its location is superb. It was extremely comfortable and I must say the shower was one of the best and makes my new one at home seem somewhat inadequate

The location was superb - lovely walks from the cottage and a lovely beach nearby. Also very quiet which we wanted.

The location was excellent for walks. Just on the edge of a nature reserve. Lots of very nice places to eat out.

We stayed in the cottage 5 years ago and have no regrets at returning. The whole area is wonderful if you enjoy peace and quiet and cliff top walks.

Location, location, location. Plenty of walks from cottage - so the commuters can have a rest from driving!

Location near cliffs and coast

The childrens play area at St Abbs Information Centre was excellent for our 3 & 5 year olds and within walking distance.

Being able to walk out the front door and into a nature reserve is wonderful.

An excellent place to leave the car and walk with amenities all being within walking distance for the able. The cottage is beautiful and decor delightful.

Acommodation was very well equipped, clean and cozy with plenty of fuel provided etc. Photo's of the property on the website dont actually do the property justice! Wonderful location for walking and exploring the area with great views from St Abbs and St Abbs Head. Also Coldingham Bay was within easy walking distance and the whole area was extremely clean and appeard well maintained.

During one of the coldest weeks of the year we very much appreciated the open fire and the well stocked store of good quality coal.

We loved the open fire - having lived in Northern Ireland we miss our 'turf' fires! An excellent location for touring around. It was great to hear the sound of the sea.

An excellent location with easy access to cliff-top walks. The cottage was true to the description and we were particularly struck by the cleanliness - it was one of the best we've stayed in and seemed very welcoming.

Located at the edge of a nature reserve and close to coastal and inland walks and gardens, the cottage was ideally placed for a peaceful, restful and interesting holiday. It was very comfortable, and well equipped. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday.

The location was marvellous, right on the edge of the nature reserve and backing onto the farmer's fields. Far enough from the town, but also close enough to get essentials. The open coal fire was a delight and much warmer than some of the stove-type burners we have experienced.

We had a most enjoyable week and would recommend it to anyone wishing to stay in that area.

St.Abbs harbour, less than a minute walk away, has stunning views. The Cottage was one of the best we have stayed in, and an excellent location for Scottish borders and North Northumberland. There are good walks from the cottage door. The Tea Garden in St.Abbs harbour was good value for money, the staff friendly and our dog welcomed.

We had a really wonderful time at Near Bank Cottage. The service provided by you was excellent at every stage. The cottage and it's surroundings could not have been better for us. We have
stayed in a lot of cottages over the years but this is the best yet. It was
clean and well appointed, since there were only two of us there it was also
spacious. The beds were impressive, of a good quality and very clean. In the
past the beds and bedding in some cottages(not Sykes) have been
uncomfortable and worn. The decor was clean and in keeping with the cottage
theme, obviously well maintained from season to season. The walks from the doorstep, the tranquility of the house, garden and surroundings added to our enjoyment of the holiday. Local people were very friendly and helpful. Local produce epecially meat and fish were easy to obtain for home cooking, equally local pubs served real food using these
delicious local ingredients. There was reliable local bus service between Berwick and Edinburgh, calling
at villages on the way, a good break from driving and parking. To sum up we loved the place. We hope to rebook, possibly for 2007. We will be able to recommend Sykes cottages to family and friends, in fact we have already started to do so!

Very relaxing and peaceful. It was lovely to take a cup of tea out into the garden and sit watching the birds.

An excellent garden - dog proof and child friendly. Nearby Coldingham Sands is a brilliant beach for families - sand, rock pools, safe swimming and surfing.

The kitchen was well equipped, the bedrooms were very clean and had comfortable beds. An ideal cottage for a very quiet and relaxing break, with many walks from the doorstep.

Freedom to come and go. The coal fire and the general situation on the edge of the nature reserve. All the people in the local shops and pubs very friendly and happy to see you. Great walk along the cliffs to Eyemouth.

The cottage was comfortable. The garden was excellent. The location was idyllic with wonderful walks and scenery. St. Abbs and the surrounding area is a lovely part of Britain - we highly recommend it for a peaceful relaxing holiday.

Perfect location with country and sea walks from the door.

There was nothing wrong with our holiday which is why I rebooked within 24 hours. The area is clearly outstanding with much on offer for both the naturalist, walker or just reader of books.

The cottage was lovely and comfortable. The lounge was a really nice space to relax in. It was also in an excellent location. More or less everything we needed was there (including a helpfully placed hot water bottle!).

Ideal location to the surrounding areas of interest. Country side and villages at its best. The accommodation is a praise worthy example of the style of that era. People friendly area.

Everything about the holiday was excellent. It was our first time in the area and the scenery was really beautiful. St Abbs was a lovely place to relax and had two good cafes to eat during the day. We found the bus service which was at the end of lane really useful and several times we went to Eyemouth and Burnmouth and walked back along the coastal path and also to the town of Berwick which was a really interesting place. We would love to return to explore further. Altogether a really excellent holiday

The cottage location near the nature reserve was excellent. The inside of the cottage and the lovely garden outside were a delight to return to.

House was very clean and homely. Very comfortable in the evening with the fire lit. Lovely garden and peaceful area. Loved the whole holiday. Wish it lasted longer. Nice quiet holiday walking the dog(plenty of local walks from the doorstep). Fantastic sandy beach nearby.

The area was gorgeous. There was a lovely walk from the front door of the cottage. The people we met were very friendly and welcoming, especially the Post Master in the village shop.

Thank you for a lovely holiday, the cottage was warm and cosy and a perfect location for our Collie dog to get as much exercise as he wished, not only in the garden but all along the cliff tops and the beaches out to Coldingham.
We found everything we needed in the cottage and found it very clean and tidy on our arrival. We can definitely recommend the cottage. Also we had a really good meal at the New Inn in Coldingham, good food & friendly service. We would recommend it to your guests.

A cosy traditional cottage in an excellent setting for walking and relaxing. Fantastic scenery. Lots of history and wildlife. Hardly needed to use the car at all. Secluded garden for relaxing after a days walking. Locals very friendly. The second hand charity bookshop at the Priory Gate raises money for the village and is a real treat for book lovers - I came home with plenty of bargains!

We were warm and cosy. So many different birds visited the garden. Lovely walks both around the Nature Reserve and along the coastal paths. A real taste of 'living down the lane'!

The peace! The location of this property is nothing short of excellent. We loved is so much that we came home and immediately booked another week in September! I think that says it all!

The position of the property, secluded but not too far from amenities and road routes. The area is beautiful to walk in, the coastline amazing, the bird life entrancing and not many people - just what we like. The garden was lovely to sit in at the end of a day's walking.

This was the fifth time we have stayed at Near Bank Cottage. Each time the owners have upgraded something to make the stay even more pleasurable. This time it was the bathroom. The refit that has provided a shower was inspired! We love the position of the house, the garden, the quiet surroundings - I could go on. This is the ideal place to chill. And if you love wildlife, well... I'd like to specially mention the housekeeper. My wife left some jewellery at the house. As soon as she heard about this, she went back to the house to confirm it was there, and posted the items to us at the first available opportunity. Not only that, but they had been packed with the utmost care and sent Special Delivery to arrive the next day. Great service!

The location of the cottage with its access on to St Abbs Head and proximity
to other attractions. It was easy to reach major road networks but the cottage was secluded and restful.

The cottage was warm and welcoming, lovely garden and an open fire - fuel was included in the price. A good base for walking, and visiting country houses etc. Nice unusual shops in North Berwick and you can walk down to Coldingham beach from the cottage.

Peaceful and tranquil, St Abb's is simply beautiful and St Abb's Head walk was literally as you step out the door. We loved this cottage and its location.The cottage is deceptively roomy, has all you could need and is clean, pleasant and cosy.

This is the second time we have stayed at this Cottage, everyone had a great time. Remembered to take food for the bird table this time and saw everything from sparrows to woodpeckers. Will return again next year and for many more years to come.

Near Bank Cottage is in a very peaceful location with lots of wildlife and beautiful coastal scenery nearby. The cottage itself is very comfortable and cosy and we felt at home right away. The garden was a particular bonus as it was quiet (except for the chatter of the many birds that frequented it) and was a great place to sit and admire the countryside view or read a book. The local shop in Coldingham was well stocked and the beach was unspoiled by any man-made promenades, etc.

Accessible cottage in a beautiful setting, perfectly decorated and dog friendly!

The location of Near Bank Cottage is superb; we hardly had to use the car. Whether walking on the Nature Reserve Cliffs, taking a bus into Eyemouth and walking back, or just strolling into St Abbs for a coffee, our stay is always relaxing and reviving.

Fred keeps the house very clean and it was a real bonus when he texted us to say we could get in early.

As the weather was great we made full use of the garden, which in the evening was the perfect place for post-walk relaxation.

The cottage offers everything we need for a successful holiday and we hope that the owners will accept the suggestions below in the same spirit as they are given - to help make a fantastic holiday cottage even better!

This was our second stay at this property. Once again lots of wildlife was seen without leaving the house and there were numerous varieties of birds in the back garden. There were excellent walks straight from the doorstep. Just a perfect place for a lazy break, with the opportunities to travel further if the mood takes you. An ideal location for visiting other Scottish Border attractions. Would highly recommend Near Bank Cottage.
