Happy Union Stables, Rhayader

Happy Union Stables is ideal for those who like the idea of staying in a romantic and tranquil setting. The cottage is lovely and the owners are very friendly and helpful.
The bara brith provided on arrival delicious and devoured all too quickly by my sons.
Cycling from the cottage was a delight as the roads were so quiet and safe and the Elan Valley and aberystwyth well worth a visit. A guided tour of the hall at abby- Cwm - Hir is guaranteed to put a smile on your face, very quirky and interesting. You can also round off the day perfectly with a drink at the Happy Union Inn.

we had a fabulous Christmas. The cottage was extremely clean, warm and comfortable, ideal for a Christmas with minus 10 temperatures outside, for myself, my daughter and her husband and their children, aged 3 and 5.. The owners, who run the pub next door, were friendly and welcoming. I would recommend it to anyone for a winter break

Excellent holiday stay in a lovely area of mid wales. Super weather, lots to do and see and not too far from some wonderful beaches. Cottage was an excellent base, albeit a little off the beaten track but never the less it is a superb barn conversion, very comfortable and extremely well equiped & the owners are very welcoming & friendly.

The Happy Union Stables are perfect for a queit family getaway. The stables have been restored to a very high standard and its layout is perfect for a family (we had 2, so 4 adults, 2 babies and a 5 year old).
The owners live next door in the wonderful pub and couldn;t be more helpful.
The village is very quiet so bear this in mind if you're wanting somewhere with more things going on.

From the start we were made to feel welcome with a tea tray and bara brith. The cottage is warm and has everything you'll need for a relaxing stay. The village is peaceful and the villagers very friendly. If you do stay in abbey-cwm-hir make sure you visit The Hall - its an experience not to be missed - a true jewel in Wales' Crown. The church in the village is very pretty and well worth a visit. We'll do our best to stay at Happy Union Stables again.

My wife, myself and two friends stayed at this lovely property during the week of the Royal Welsh Show and were overwhelmed by the friendliness not only of the owners, John and Karen Jones, but of the local people who frequented John and Karen's pub at night.
The property is very well set-out and has everything you might need. The furnishings are comfortable and in very good condition. We had excellent weather during our stay and managed to sit out in the garden. This also gave us a chance to talk with the occassional passer-by, and walkers tackling Glyndwr's Way.
The pub, which opens at 8:00p.m., Monday to Saturday, is a 30 seconds walk away from the house. The house is attached to a post office, operated by Karen, and opens two days a week. As you can see, this is a very rural retreat.
It is, however, a short drive to local towns Rhayder, Builth Wells, etc, and lies in, and near, superb scenery, including the Elan Valley. There are also frequent sightings of Red Kites over the house.
If you want somewhere to stay on this area you should consider Taylors Cottage as one of your options.

very pleasent holiday cottage.the interior was very welcoming,high standard and great for the family.i would recommend the everyone.the owners were so freindly.

Very well designed former cow shed with en suite shower room. Oak beams and plenty of character. Bedrooms have amazing storage space. Owners pub next door open from 8pm excl. Sundays. Village Church worth a visit as are the Abbey ruins. Note 4 miles off main road which seems longer. Direct route to next town Rhayader is narrow but worth the views. Heating is by German semi storage electric panels which are very efficient and easily controlled. Lounge window faces North but good views to woods beyond. Plenty of walks from the door if you get decent weather.

Accommodation was modern, clean and very comfortable. The local area was very scenic.

It was so nice to be greeted by flowers, milk and cake. The bedding was lovely! It was a lovely place to stay, we did not want to leave.

Barn was lovely and the village very peaceful. Unfortunately weather was not that good but we made the most of our time there.

The area was beautiful. The cottage was lovely. There was a delicious Bara Brith and a vase of flowers to add to our welcome. It was a quiet and peaceful location and the bed was extremely comfortable. We were able to cycle safely every day taking in the gorgeous views. The cottage owners were so helpful and friendly. I am so glad I chose one of Sykes cottages. Thank You.

We were not bothered by the owners as on previous holidays. Cottage was extremely warm and as we were with Australians that was a must. For two couples it was perfect and we would consider going again.

Happy Union Stables is a beautiful barn conversion decorated to a very high standard throughout, with a fabulous open plan living area and big french windows to enjoy the view of the hills opposite. It is in a lovely quiet village location, ideally situated by the pub and close to Rhayader and Llandidrod Wells and all the many attractions and nature reserves there. We would definitely recommend it!

We have just returned from the most wonderful holiday ever in the Happy Union Stables in Abbey Cwm Hir. The cottage was superb! Everything one could wish for and more. We were welcomed by the owner's wife who had added the extra touches to her welcome with home made cake and flowers on our arrival. Absolutely wonderful! I have a mobility problem but I was looked after with care and without condescension. We were welcomed by the whole village and felt like friends. Thanks to all.

Wonderfully warm welcome, Bara Brith loaf, butter and milk to make a pot of tea - just what we needed after our journey. The cottage is one of the best we have stayed in. Anyone visiting should make sure to visit The Hall in the village.

The owners were great people. They had left fresh flowers and home cooked bara bread, also some butter, milk, tea and coffee. I would recommend to anybody for a great holiday stay.

The property was lovely, as was the scenery. Been to other holiday cottages and this was one 11 out of 10. It was perfect.

Lovely, warm, stylish and tastefully decorated cottage. It has a modern non-fussy look which we like with original barn features. Home made fruit cake awaiting us on arrival, how lovely. Beautiful area and lots to do. Peaceful setting.

The property was excellent in an idyllic location. We liked the very relaxing nature of the immediate area. I could not praise the owners and local people enough in how friendly and welcoming to us they all were, and made our holiday so very nice. We would definitely stay there again, and would have no hesitation in recommending the property to anyone.

A cosy, well equipped cottage with 2 bathrooms which is nice when travelling with teenagers. The cottage had a nice big sitting room/kitchen, the kitchen was well equipped and it had comfortable beds. Cars can be parked on premises and there is enough space outside to play for children.

This is a well laid out and appointed cottage, in a beautiful location, run by a lovely and friendly couple.

Everything about this holiday was amazing. Very relaxing. Locals were very welcoming. Owners were so friendly. Would highly recommend Happy Union Stables.
