Contemporary luxury has been seamlessly combined with old-world charm in Townfoot Cottage, a Northumberland holiday cottage on the edge of Elsdon village. The original stone exterior, stone flooring, wood panels and open fire create a picture of rural charm in the two-bedroom, pet-friendly property.

Reviews
Cosy and relaxing
Newly baked scones, homemade jam and tea things are laid ready on the table to welcome guests.
The cottage is very well appointed and the decor is excellent but not overstated.
There is a good shop in Otterburn, only 2 miles away, where you can get newspapers and all basic food requirements. About 10 miles away there is an excellent Farm Shop at Wallington Hall.
Elsdon is a good centre from which to visit the whole of Northumberland and the border towns in Scotland, but for those more active visitors there are good walks nearby. Newcastle with all its amenities is only a 30 minute drive away.
This is a really lovely place to stay; if I must find something not quite perfect it is the lack of a walk-in shower, but that's just my personal preference.
A perfect place to stay
Comfort and friendliness
Having stayed at Townfoot Cottage on several occasions, our opinion is still the same - an excellent property very comfotable and the owner is always on hand if needed and very helpful.
As already indicated we feel you should make it clear in your future catalogues that entry to property is from 4pm on day of arrival not 3pm - this did not howe ver detract from our enjoyment of the week
An idyllic retreat
Best holiday rental ever
The cottage has everything and the owner is extremely helpful. The week we stayed was classic British summer weather - sunshine and showers - but we still had a great time.
Cottage has central heating and a wood-burning stove if the weather is cold. Small garden and a barbecue if the weather is good.
Elsdon is very small (but quiet and pretty) so you need to drive if you want to buy anything or eat out. Nearest pubs/cafes/shop is in Otterburn which is about 10 minutes' drive away.
Great location for exploring Northumberland and Durham - maximum 1.5 hours drive to most tourist destinations or walking areas. Local walks too if you want to have a lazy day.
Great place to stay!
My family and I stayed for four nights at Townfoot Cottage and loved every minute of it! The cottage is very well equipped and very cosy, with a lovely wood burner to take away the evening chill, very comfortable beds too. Sarah was very welcoming and helpful. The pub in the village is great, and the landlord very welcoming - as was everyone else in the village! Hoping to visit again soon
Attractive and well laid out cottage, with real charm. Friendly welcome from owner. Free internet access and great gammon and chips at local pub!
A real home from home.A very nice welcome from the owners which was welcome after the journey.
We have stayed in several cottages but this was the best one. There was a warm welcome by the owners and we will definitely be going back.
The cottage was wonderfully cosy to come back to even if the weather outside was wet and wild.
We wanted a relaxing break in cosy surroundings, and this is exactly what we got. Sykes were very helpful in advising us on the choice of property and area. The property owners in the adjoining property provided a super welcome (including tea and cake!), but then left us to our own devices. The property is probably the nicest we have stayed in, and the surrounding countryside is beautiful. Quite perfect!
Very quiet location. Local pub open from 7pm but very good food and service.
Delighted with the quality of the decoration, cleanliness and equipment.
Warm welcome and lots of useful info about the area and its attractions in the property.
Nice location for a peaceful break.
Charming owner, nice cottage .
Exceptional property with a great host.
Super beds, loads of towels. Multi fuel stove warmed the whole house. Good food at the pub but not open Sun. or Mon.
It was a lovely remote cottage for a Christmas break and very close to drive to Scotland. Owner was very welcoming and very helpful. There was nothing missing from the cottage that was highly essential and even my 2 kids had fun.
Very friendly welcome. Homely and thoughtful 'extras' appreciated. Excellently maintained property, very comfortable. Ideal base for touring this beautiful area.
Friendly and helpful owner next door, lovely quiet location.
A very good cottage in a pretty location.
The accommodation was great. We were most impressed with the welcome received...The whole area was a great place to visit and made for a very enjoyable holiday.
Excellent location--quiet and good touring/walking base. Very friendly and helpful owner. Lots of info and maps on hand. Sensible pricing.
The cottage was excellent, the welcome superb, the little extras yummy. Thank you. This cottage is an ideal base for discovering the delights of Northumberland, the superb castles, the wonderful beaches, Beamish living museum; the walks are plenty and varied and these are just a few of the attractions. It is the first time we have been to this part of the country, but we would love to go back.
A beautiful cottage, made very welcoming. It was in a central position for visits.
The fantastic fresh scone and tea were welcome! Most unexpected! A very nice cottage - no complaints whatsoever.
We always enjoy our trips to Northumberland and the weather was particularly kind to us this time! We visited all the usual haunts - Bamburgh, and the beautiful coast, Keilder, Morpeth, Alnwick and a couple of trips into Scotland.
An ideal setting with an extremely helpful owner next door. This cottage was fantastic and "fully loaded"! The owner has placed literature for all attractions, houses and other very useful information. Great for an "away from it all" break!
Exceeds the high standard we have come to expect from Sykes.
A very welcoming and helpful owner. The cottage was furnished to a high standard.
Excellent cottage, lovely welcome from owner. So peaceful and quiet, locals very pleasant and new owners of village pub served really good food and were very friendly.
If you want a peaceful relaxing holiday away from all the hustle and bustle, this is the place to go.
For a quiet holiday in a well-equipped and cosy cottage, this was excellent. The owner was very welcoming, but never intrusive.
We would highly recommend this property and hope to return. An absolute gem! From the welcome of tea and scones, chocs and wine, everything was first class. Lovely area, friendly local pub.
A very warm welcome to a comfortable cottage.
This is the fourth time we've been back. We love the property and the location. We always find something different to do in the surrounding area, i.e National Trust properties, castles and historical sights such as Hadrians Wall and Holy Island, pretty villages and the unspoilt beaches. A lovely family holiday.
Excellent as always!
A lovely cottage, so well equipped, to be highly recommended. Highlights of our visit to Northumberland were Cragside, Alnwick Castle & gardens, and Bamburgh. We certainly hope to return!
The cottage was very nice and very well equiped the owner who lives next door was very friendly. A fresh pot of tea and jam and scones were on the table when we arrived and a gift of wine and chocs were nice touches.
Thank you
Townfoot cottage was a great property of a very high standard. It was very clean and inviting, had everything that we needed and lots of storage space. It is situated in an area with lovely scenery and is a good base for people visiting Northumbria for the first time.
The owner of the cottage was next door and therefore easy to speak to when we needed information.
I would highly recommend this cottage and the area.
Great for a couple, a family or group of friends.
A delightful cottage in a lovely area within easy reach of many attractions.
A warm welcome when we arrived. A great property to stay at in a wonderful area of England.
Good location for exploring Northumberland (our first holiday in this area). Warm welcome from owner (scones and tea on arrival; plus wine and chocolates). Comfortable and well equipped cottage.
It was our 4th visit and there were the usual high standards at the property. Warm welcome from the owner and no complaints whatsoever.
A lovely cottage in a quiet location, but reasonably central for the areas of Northumberland that we wished to visit.
A very quiet and peaceful village. We were welcomed with a bottle of wine, chocolates and scones.
This cottage was a home from home. Comfortable and spacious yet cosy. A very warm welcome from the owner and amazing attention to detail. One of the very best we have stayed in and we've been doing cottage holidays for many many years!
The cottage was spacious but very cosy and we loved having the log burner. The village was lovely and there is plenty to explore in the local area.
The cottage was of a very good standard and the owner extremely welcoming. Located in a lovely part of Northumberland in a quiet village, which made for a relaxing holiday. Would stay again.
Never been to Northumberland before - lovely lovely place. Cottage was lovely and the owners very pleasant, it was ideally suited to our need for somewhere central to the area but also peaceful but not miles from amenities. Avid National Trust members so was fantastic, visitors with us from Australia so we were able to show them the UK at its best, although the weather could have been kinder.
Beautiful cottage, the owner had paid great attention to detail and provided lots of extra finishing touches. The best equipped kitchen ever. The quality of the towels and bedding were very good too.
Really nice, cosy cottage and friendly owner too! Lots of walking and cycling (road and mountain biking) nearby. It was very nice to return to Townfoot Cottage and light up the fire!
The owner was very welcoming and a pleasure to meet. Elsdon is a very good location for exploring Northumberland which, even during a cold week in February, was very beautiful. Overall this comfy, cosy cottage was one of the best we've stayed in and we'll definitely be considering a repeat visit.
A clean and comfortable property with lots to see and do.
It was a beautiful cottage in a lovely part of the country with a very welcoming owner. All in all it was a fabulous break!
The property was very clean and well furnished with everything we needed for our week's holiday.
As always this property is of a very high standard and was an excellent base from which to travel around Northumberland. The welcome received was warm and sincere and help was always available if needed. A property to recommend to anyone.
