A delightful property
The property was spotlessly clean, very comfortable and very well equipped. It is centrally located in the village which is a good base for exploring the area.
Great centre
After a stressful year this was just the sort of relaxing holiday we needed.
Great position within the village and plenty of eateries in walking distance (including the Indian takeaway from the pub next door - I recommend the hash-o-bash duck!). Good centre for travelling around Northumberland which we hadn't visited much before. Lots of helpful info in the cottage, too.
Whinges were few - it would have been nice to have some outside space but appreciate that's not possible - also the door from the back bedroom was unlocked but led nowhere except to a small muddy area which I shouldn't have trodden in anyway!
Re the village itself - we shouldn't have to pay for access to the beach at the end of the day, around 5pm. Surprising how difficult it is to access the beaches (other than alnmouth itself) when your mobility is restricted.
Recommended trips - boat from Seahouses to Farne Islands; long round trip Berwick-Jedburgh-Kielder; Rothbury a lovely village despite the memory of the Raoul Moat "shoot-out"; Alnwick; Tynemouth; Bamburgh Castle.
There's still more to do so we expect to come again.
Would recommend to anyone
We have just spent a delightful long weekend in Alnmouth and could not have asked for a better place to stay - a delightful cottage situated on a quiet high street with a view of the sea from the first floor living room. The bedrooms both have on-suite bathrooms (one with a small bath and shower and one with a large shower) situated on the ground floor. Very conformable and ideally located for local amenities, local walks (of which there are many - look at the local walking book provided)
We got there early and had no problem getting access obtaining the keys from the adjoining pub. Very welcoming local shop within too minutes providing all what you would need and tried two of the local pubs, the Red Lion and the Sun. Both were traditional, open fires and real ale. We did our own cooking in the well presented open plan kitchen but did get a 'take away' fish and chips from the neighboring pub which were good value. The other two pubs also looked nice.
If there is any negative it would possibly be that the ground floor rear bedroom (which we did not use) does not have a window but don't let this put you off
Good accommodation and location
Jackson Cottage offers a very good level of amenity - rooms nicely decorated and furnished, warm and comfortable, all gadgets etc in the kitchen, excellent view to the sea. The house is 'upside down', with the bedrooms on the ground floor so that the sea view can be appreciated from the first floor bay window in the lounge and dining area. Just two of us stayed, and we chose the bedroom at the back because (we suspect) road and street noise might be disturbing in the front bedroom (it depends what you are used to). There are plenty of excellent restaurants and cafes in Alnmouth, and it is a good location for for the coastal sights and walks.
Everything it said it was!
We stayed here for the February half-term week with my daughter, her husband and our grand-daughter. As an ' upside down' house it worked extremely well. The bedrooms on the ground floor were clean, with lovely white bed linen and both rooms had an en-suite bathroom/ shower room. We were provided with a cot and a high chair(although the high chair did not have a tray) free of charge.
Upstairs the rooms were open plan so the sitting room extended into a lovely modern kitchen. The dining table was positioned near the bay window which allowed us to view the sea.
Although there is no allocated parking we did not have a parking outside or very near the house( and we had two cars).
Alnmouth is a lovely seaside town with many places offering evening meals.
Clean, comfortable.
What a nice place to stay, very clean, warm and cosy. The kitchen is well equipped, with everything we used working well..The bedrooms are a good size and the shower is brilliant. The locals are very welcoming. We have tried almost all the eateries and they were all good. The best by far is the Italian- they even do a happy hour early in the evening.Overall, a lovely holiday experience, Thank you Mrs Jackson and Sykes Cottages.
Lovely well furnished cottage.
We stayed in this cottage for a week in July, it was comfortably furnished with all mod cons.
Two en suite bathrooms was an added bonus, good views to the sea and the golf course, we would stay there again.
Cosy Christmas with Sea View
Well-appointed & well-kept tce. cottage in centre of Alnmouth. all facilities necessary to enjoy winter week away.
A delightful property in a great position
We fell in love with the cottage and the area in general. The owner was kind enough to provide us with towels because we were travelling by train and packing minimally. The cottage is clean, inviting and warm with great views from the bay window. It is located on a friendly yet peaceful street. I so enjoyed waking up to the sound of birdsong and spending time people - watching from the bay window. A stone's throw from sandy beach and spectacular views. Also cottage is 50yards from a bus stop, which was so handy for us. Would recommend any of the local eateries, but we particularly enjoyed great food from Bistro 23, who were kind enough to let us have 'takeaway' food even though they don't usually serve it. A great holiday.
Perfect cottage, perfect location
A delightful cottage, spotlessly clean with everything we needed, the cottage was very comfortable and cosy, amazing view and a fab shower. Located in a lovely little village, with local shops and pubs, and neighbouring places within easy reach. I would highly recommend this cottage, and would certainly book it again if I was to return to the area. A most enjoyable stay.
DISAPPOINTED, PARKING A NIGHTMARE - LEFT EARLY DUE TO NOISE.
Cottage description stated - in centre of Alynmouth. Should have read in centre of main street in Alynmouth. Bus stop really close - very frequent service from early morning to late evening so engine running etc. Also 3 parking spaces right in front of cottage, again constant coming and going but practically impossible to use for the cottage renters unless very lucky.
SO NOISY.
Rear bedroom has very little natural light, opaque glass door to rear alley, so no fresh air, ditto for front bedroom as this window opened onto the pavement/street.
People stood waiting for buses, talking, on mobiles etc and smoking so smoke would drift upstairs into lounge if windows open there.
Operating the electric hob was a nightmare due to safety lock and no brochure to give instructions on how to clear this.
Clean, good beds etc. Owner was very helpful when we arrived to find that the key did not appear to be available from the pub. Fortunately she advised where we could locate one.
We are a mature couple and had just spent a lovely week in a Sykes cottage in the Yorkshire Dales so we found our experience at Jackson's very disappointing to say the least.
We would not want to return to this property.
I agree with another persons comments on the lack of access to many of the coastal towns ,many have signs saying - no vehicles past this point. Not helpful if person has mobility problem.
There is a lovely fish restaurant in Amble.
great stay at Jacksons Cottage
We stayed for a week at Jacksons Cottage and couldn't fault it. We stayed at the cottage with my son and his family and had two cars. We didn't find parking a problem we always found a parking space. The cottage has a lovely view of the golf course and sea through the upstairs lounge window, it was a lovely place to sit with a brew and watch the world go by. The kitchen is fitted with everything you need including a washer/dryer which my daughter in law made good use of. The beach is a couple of minutes walk away as is the Red Lion pub which serves lovely food and has a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We are looking to book again for the new year.
Position of the property and the local facilities - great for children but completely unspoilt by commercical ventures.
The best meal we had out was at the Dunstanburgh Castle Hotel at Embleton - excellent food and very good value for money.
The excellent nearby beach, and our boat trip around the Farne Islands.
Peaceful location and nice local pubs, the Saddle hotel serves good food just a few steps away.
Upstairs area was well designed & kitchen was excellent. Nice outlook from sitting room. Alnmouth was a very nice place to stay - good walks & lovely scenery.
We thought the area around Alnmouth, the scenery and beaches were fantastic. We really like Northumbria, so much so, we are thinking of living there!!!
Brilliant sea views from the lounge window & digging on the beach with the children each evening.
Jackson Cottage is very pleasant, clean & well equipped. Alnmouth is a delightful place & our holiday was excellent. The whole area is very beautiful.
Excellent beach walks, good village shop close by.
Pleasant sea view from upstairs and owner helpful.
Excellent facilities, e.g. dishwasher. High standard of TV / DVD / CD.
The kids particularly liked the rock pooling on the beach. The area was unspoilt and yet had plenty of amenities. Lots of eating places. Having a deli/grocer 20 m away was brilliant. We used the bus services alot and these were very good - hourly to Alnwick and Amble.
We really enjoyed our stay in Alnmouth, everything was perfect - the cottage was beautiful, very clean well kept and a perfect base for exploring. I would recommend this property to anyone wanting to stay in Northumberland.
It was all good and we would do it again and go back to Jackson cottage, thank you very much.
In a lovely position as we were able to clearly see the sea and look out onto the street. Very good position for all the amenities of Alnmouth.
On arrival we found that the owners had erected a Christmas tree complete with lights and had decorated the property with real holly (it was Xmas). You couldn't really ask for more. It was so good, we've already booked for Xmas in 2006 - 2 weeks this time!
First class in all respects, we will be back as soon as possible. The trouble is this is a hidden jewel and I want to keep it a secret, but I also want to tell everyone. The cottage was better than the book says, and the beaches in the area are some of the best I have seen.
Lovely upside down cottage. Beautiful beach. Lovely people.
This is the third time we've stayed in the property in the past 12 months and on returning we've booked for two weeks at Christmas in 2007 - I think that's all the recommendation that's necessary!
A very comfortable, warm and well-equipped cottage. Very central to all amenities.
Ideal setting. Close to the beach and countryside.
Brilliantly positioned for walks around the village and on the beach. Jackson Cottage felt like a 'home from home' - we wished we were staying longer. This is why we are going back again.
What a wonderful holiday cottage, I have already recommended it to several of my colleagues at work. Alnmouth is a delightful location and well situated for many attractions and days out. The beach, estuary and golf were excellent.
Very comfortable.
We felt totally at home - the cottage was perfect. Lovely beach for the children. We look forward to returning.
The location of the cottage was excellent and it was really comfortable.
Very nice cottage. Cottage was lovely and in a great location. Had lots of info/board games which was a nice touch. Very impressed by both the cottage and Alnmouth and surrounding area and bus and train links.
The lovely upstairs bay window with seating is great, not only for looking out to sea but also for observing people coming and going in the street below. The Saddle Hotel serves reasonably priced quality food available in two portion sizes.
Upstairs sitting room and oriole style window at the front of the property overlooking the street and the sea. Easy access to beach and river. The place was well kitted out with everything needed for a week.
Excellent cottage for families, spacious, minutes from beach & park. Several pubs doing good food, close to some good attractions, esp. Alnwick garden. Don't forget dry clothes for the kids!
Loved the view, and proximity to the beach, and the owners were very helpful. The cottage was well stocked with local information.
The cottage was lovely, conveniently situated with good views of the golf course and sea from the lounge window seat.
It was very well stocked. It was also very homely.
Alnmouth is a wonderful place to stay.
This is the second time we have visited this cottage. It is an excellent cottage in a wonderful location. The cottage is superbly fitted out with quality items. It is very peaceful. Alnmouth is a tranquil haven.
A lovely cottage, very comfortable.
Cottage extremely comfortable and warm. Very close to amenities and lovely sea views. We loved the sea views from the first floor sitting room. Would strongly recommend the property.
A warm, comfortable cottage and well equipped. It had everything my wife and I needed. Excellent TV. Good location. Very much enjoyed the views of the sea from the lounge windows. Also appreciated the visit from the owner soon after our arrival.
Jackson Cottage is in a fantastic setting and provides all you need for a thoroughly relaxing break. We'll definitely be back!
Great location for trains/ local buses and walking up the Coast. An unspoilt, friendly and welcoming part of the world with good local pubs and shops. Nice, quiet and relaxing. A
lovely upside down cottage with good facilities.
I like the view from the sitting room and the proximity of the cottage to the beach and places to eat. Also well positioned to visit both northern and southern stretches of the Northumbrian coast, as well as interesting places inland.
The cottage was comfortable, well equipped, centrally located and had splendid views.
Good location within a very pleasant village. Sea views were better than we expected and there was a good choice of places to eat. Well organised arrangements from Sykes Cottages.
The location was good and the view from the bay window to the sea was very nice.
This is the second cottage we have stayed in belonging to Bilton Barns and they are of an exceptional high standard. Jackson Cottage was an ideal base for us to explore the local area and we will certainly be re-booking.
We enjoyed the location and the cottage very much. It was centrally located to all the things that we needed as a family. The area is beautiful and there is always plenty to do and see.
Excellent location with excellent amenities. Can't wait to go back.
Alnmouth is a beautiful spot and the view from the sitting room window out over the golf course, beach and sea was wonderful. Walking along the beach on a sunny autumn day was lovely. A brilliant holiday.
The property has a brilliant location and is very well maintained. The owner is very friendly and helpful. Northumberland is a lovely county, very unspoilt.
Very well kept and presented property. Fantastic location, such close access to the beach and pubs.
We felt comfortable and at home as soon as we arrived. The beds in particular were the most comfortable we had ever slept in, which is where most rental properties fall down. Overall it was a definite 10 out of 10. Excellent, one to remember.
The cottage was lovely, and the view from the window across the Golf Course and Sea were delightful. Alnmouth is a lovely village, and everyone is friendly, a good base for travelling around.
The cottage was centrally situated in Alnmouth and the bay window had lovely views of the sea. Condition of the cottage was very good and we felt the sitting room and kitchen were roomy and comfortable. We would certainly recommend this place to family and friends.
Perfectly situated with a lovely view of the sea. Quirky with the bedrooms downstairs which I like. So close to great pubs and restaurants.
We liked the whole peaceful ambience of the cottage.
The cottage is in an excellent location and the window seat has a lovely view down to the beach. There is a good sized TV and we enjoyed having wifi access.
We liked the close proximity to everything. No disturbance late at night. Secluded walks and views.
The cottage was great. Fantastic views and quiet surroundings.
The cottage was the cleanest we have ever been in. There was plenty of space and well equipped. Lovely view from upstairs.
Great location for exploring Northumberland. Cottage was warm, clean and well kitted out. Beds were very comfy! We loved being close to the sea.
A lovely, well equipped home in a good location.
The position of the cottage is excellent for a site-seeing holiday in this area. There are plenty of good places to eat or take coffee within walking distance of the cottage. The first floor sitting/dining room is light and airy with good views towards the sea. It is a very pleasant room in which to relax.
Relaxation in an attractive little town, with unbeatable coastal and beach walks. There was plenty to see within an easy radius. The cottage was comfortable, well equipped and with a good choice of local eateries.
A lovely cottage, an ideal base for exploring Northumberland. It was very well equipped and spotlessly clean.
Jackson Cottage was quiet and peaceful with lots of interesting things to do within easy reach of this delightful seaside village
A lovely cottage with a fantastic window seat with great views. The beds were comfortable and the showers were excellent. The children loved that it was upside down.
A delightful hoidlay location.
This holiday cottage is situated in the beautifull vilage of Alnmouth with views acroos the golf course to the sea. It is very well equipped with high quality furnature, crockery, cutlery linnen etc. The two en-suite downstairs bedrooms make it ideal for two couples sharing. The lounge/dinning room on the upper floor has the nice views and a well appointed kitchen. Alnmouth is a delightful holiday destination. It offers a wide range of local attractions, beaches, estuary, bird watchin, golf course resteraunts and many other intersting destinations a short drive away. There is also a regular bus service to Alnwick and Newcastle.
A lovely cosy cottage with super views and proximety to the sea
We would wholeheartedly recommend this cottage to anyone wishing for comfortable, cosy accommodation with the convenience of shops, post office and local pubs all just a couple of minutes away. Northumberland is one of our favourite parts of the country and this part of the county is stunning. We have stayed in Northumberland many times, returning to one property 7 times which was beautiful but remote and lonely. Alnmouth was somewhere we always wanted to stay and we really enjoyed our holiday there. The only problem we could envisage would be in the Summer with the on-street parking as it was always busy but no problem when we stayed in November.
excellent family vacation
the best holiday we have had! lots of space upsatairs for the children to play, they loved the house being upside down & that they could see the sea. park & beach nearby, as well as children friendly pubs. owners lovely.
Fabulous place
We spent a few days at Jackson's Cottage in March 2011 - and loved it! Beautifully furnished, well equipped and spotlessly clean - and in an ideal location for visiting all the beautiful places Northumberland has to offer!
