The Old Forge

A big thank you to Caroline & Nigel for a warm welcome. You couldn't have been more helpful. The Old Forge was a great place to stay. Although 'Covid' curtailed a bigger family get together to celebrate my mother's 90th Birthday, we were still able to visit some wonderful places. The countryside views are amazing. A real nostalgia trip was had by all of us. The Old Forge is well appointed and very clean. Beds very comfortable too! The welcome pack and delicious drizzle cake a wonderful and thoughtful touch. The weather was surprisingly very good. We will be telling all our friends this is a great place to stay for a visit in North Yorkshire, so long as you have transport.

We have had a wonderful family reunion celebrating Christmas, Birthdays & an Anniversary. This fabulous holiday home is very comfortable and well equipped. It's been a peaceful place for us to unwind and we have had lots of fun visiting York and the surrounding area. Thank you for the gorgeous welcome basket and cake which was very much appreciated.
Yeah that lemon drizzle cake was next level good! Only problem was it went very fast....
We will have to return in winter when we can try out the log fire.

We've had a wonderful stay at The Old Forge, we've explored Yorkshire, we recommend Scampston Hall & Walled Garden, Sledmere, Nunnington Hall & York Maze. The weather has been glorious especially good for our picnics. Our 2 daughters have enjoyed feeding the donkeys across the road and stroking Archie each day. As support workers it's been lovely to support a gentleman on holiday, he has loved it especially the beautiful beaches. We have had a most enjoyable holiday here in The Old Forge. The weather has been mostly sunny & dry and the accommodation first class! The only possible improvement would be a grab-bar in the shower and a non-slip shower mat. Thank you for the welcome basket & the delicious cake, much appreciated.

The first time we have ventured far since Covid-19 struck, and we couldn't have landed in a better place! Excellent standard of accommodation - everything one could want (except a lemon squeezer). The King Size Bed was particularly comfortable - I had to stop my husband from trying to smuggle it home! Wonderful, rolling cycling country gave us some great rides, with only one wet day the whole week. The goody- basket and lemon cake were much appreciated.

Dear Caroline & Nigel, Thank you for making our stay so welcoming - the cake was delicious! A real home from home with all the amenities you need and very comfortable and tastefully decorated. We had lovely trips on the steam train from Pickering to Whitby and to Thirsk to The James Herriott Museum. Driving around the stunning countryside was beautiful. We've all thoroughly enjoyed our break. Thank You.

We have had a lovely stay. The weather has been fantastic too! Quiz night at the pub welcoming, but we were rubbish! We've visited childhood places of happiness, Bridlington, Hornsea. The trip to Sledmere House is a must for future guests and only minutes away. A visit to Eden camp is a must for all ages. The cottage was very relaxing, beds comfy and welcome pack just that, 'Welcoming.' Thanks to you all.

Excellent warm family accommodation , all on one floor and with a choice of appropriate sized beds, two bathrooms, and a large table. Friendly helpful owners next door with a lovely dog, Archie. The cottage coped well with 7 people in wet weather. Generous 'Welcome Basket' with fresh local eggs. Wonderful view of the church with well kept grounds and sounds of the rooks in the local trees. It is everything it advertises to be.

From our own beautiful area to a new one - wonderful! Excellent accessible accommodation - the access statement was really helpful - and a great modern country feel. We've enjoyed meals out at The Three Tuns here in the village and The Star at Weaverthorpe, both of which were very good.Days out to Scampston Hall Garden, Castle Howard and Flamborough Head were very enjoyable. Also local trundles/walks were fun along quiet roads and bumpy tracks.
Archie & The Donkeys (a new band?) provided four legged friends, and it's been good to chat with Caroline here and there. All in all, an excellent holiday in a beautiful location. Thank you very much! Liz & Richard. PS Welcome basket was lovely, especially the lemon cake!

The perfect place for our family get-together, with a great welcome from Nigel & Caroline, with delicious lemon drizzle cake and Yorkshire goodies. We enjoyed walks in the neighbouring countryside including around Castle Howard and a dramatic drive over The North York Moors to Whitby on Halloween, where we encountered a few Goths. All were impressed with the cottage, which is fitted out to the highest standard and spacious enough for everyone. Cooking, eating and socialising for seven is never easy, here the layout provided space for all such activities. Access and provision for elderly and disabled was excellent (ramp, all rooms on one floor and walk in shower).
Location is a little off the main roads but this was compensated by quiet roads and lovely views as we headed out to other attractions. Local pub was very welcoming though need to check when open.

Thank you for a thoroughly enjoyable week. Very comfortable, miles of quiet lanes for cycling. Great!

A lovely little village with an easy to find building next to a quiet church. We were met on our arrival by Caroline , who escorted us around and explained everything. We especially liked the tourist standard info section for local attractions and places to eat and drink, the comfortable beds and luxury linen, convenient for the local pub.

Thanks for the lovely stay for our multi-generational family! Loved the welcome basket of local goodies (consumed all within the first day...!!) We were lucky enough to spot a barn owl flying across the church from the kitchen window - we would also recommend going to Bempton Cliffs to spot Puffins too! We found it very comfortable and suitable for wheelchair access - thank you!

Everything you could need and set out well. Plenty of space and the games were used on the only wet-weather day we had. (This was a blessing because we visited lots of places each day, coast and moorland , Abbeys and Castles, pubs and restaurants ...a rest day was welcome) The tourist information within the Forge is excellent and helped us plan our days out with lots of options.

Thank you for a lovely, comfortable stay, you have been so friendly & helpful. We have spent a fantastic 2 weeks in North Yorks, so much to do for the whole family. Stevey & Tony at The Three Tuns have been brilliant and we have especially enjoyed the Sunday Lunch & the quiz night (we would recommend to everyone staying). They are very accommodating, great food, lovely welcoming atmosphere & child friendly. The Old Forge has been a comfortable place to stay, comfy beds, spacious & well equipped (could do with a bigger kitchen bin for the 5 of us as we were emptying it every day or two) but a minor issue! We have absolutely loved staying here and will recommend it whole-heartedly. Hope to come back again in the future. 5 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️and an extra one ⭐️for the scrumptious lemon drizzle cake!

Facilities at Old Forge cottage are first class. We were only able to stay 3 nights but beds very comfortable and 'welcome pack' just what we needed. We enjoyed driving through Hockney Yorkshire countryside and made the most of good access to coast. A lovely stay in clean well-appointed accommodation.

Excellent accommodation for 8 of us aged 4 to 85! A wonderfully quiet place to base ourselves, & excellent location for the coast & York I'm sure we will be back! Thank You.

First of all, the beds and free Wifi were excellent. We had a wonderful time here, enjoying the stream and exploring the local village & countryside. While staying at the cottage, we enjoyed the wide variety of board games, and the fireplace entertained many of us pyromaniacs. Monopoly really stood out, along with the pubs, and long mile countryside walks. Thought the DVD's provided were amazing especially Harry Potter. Our three enjoyable days are going to be remembered through history in our minds (especially the fireplace). Fantastic time, we were all in our underwear most of the time with the lovely warmth of the cottage. A wonderful place, Very hard to beat, We had a few walks, But God we did eat! When my elder daughter arranged this trip to Yorkshire I was very pleased as for many years I have wanted to come here. This occasion was to meet up with my American second cousin and her friend coming over to see us. The group of seven also included my son and partner and already mentioned daughter and partner. We had a wonderful time visiting important places. The accommodation provided by you was without question of the very best, so we thank you for that.

Lovely cottage in a perfect setting. The village is so quiet. Kids loved the donkeys & the little stream running past the house. Ideal setting for visiting different places. Has been a pleasure to stay here.

This property is perfect for families everything you need is there lots of places to visit within easy driving distance the owners live next to the property and are always there to heip an extra bonus is that the pub in the village has just reopened after being closed for 2 years and is about 200 yards from property would definitely visit again.

Our thanks for a stay here at The Old Forge. There should have been more of us here, but sadly Mum passed away just before we came - but she did come too!
