Landward Cottage (Kingsbridge)
Perched on a cliff’s edge on the grounds of Start Point Lighthouse overlooking the English Channel, Landward Cottage near the abandoned coastal village of Hallsands, Devon, offers breath-taking views of the bay and comfortable accommodation for families and groups of up to five guests.
Landward Cottage is one of two pet-friendly holiday homes on the property and lies on a dramatic headland above Start Bay at the southernmost point of Devon. The working lighthouse (earplugs provided for foggy evenings!) was built in 1863 and is four miles off the main road via narrow country lanes, concluding with a half-mile private, walled, tarmac drive running along the Cliffside that forms part of the South West Coast Path.
This two-storey child-friendly cottage in South Devon boasts a cosy sitting room with two couches, an electric wood-burner effect stove, a flat-screen TV, and a well-equipped kitchen with a washer/dryer and dining room with sea views on the ground floor.
The first floor includes two double bedrooms, a single bedroom, and a family bathroom. The landing offers space for a cot if needed. A small gravel patio area with a stone table and seating provides fantastic panoramic views.
Guests can access the South West Coast Path for the 1½-mile walk to Hallsands, a devastated fishing village viewed from a platform looking over the cliffs to the ruins. The lighthouse is open to visitors during daylight hours. The Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve and lovely beaches at Lannacombe and Beesandsare short drives away, whilst day trips to the seaside town of Salcombe or Stoke Beach beckon.
