Nearby Calke Abbey, run by the National Trust and Melbourne Hall, make for wonderful day trips, or venture to the Peak District and take in the beauty of the national park. The large and historical village of nearby Repton, often described as one of Derbyshire’s most attractive villages, has a Saxon crypt in St. Wystan’s Church where Saxon kings were interred.
