Tasteful, comfortable, spacious, warm and welcoming

A second lovely Derwent House weekend and a third one booked for next year. This house brilliantly meets our needs as a central meeting point for our family. It is beautifully and tastefully equipped, but not too precious that you can't relax. I would unreservedly recommend it.

A Perfect House For A Group Of Friends

A group of eight of us in our late fifties and early sixties try to meet up a couple of times a year. It's always quite difficult to find our perfect house as each couple prefers to have a private bathroom and we need a big dining table, lounge and kitchen.

Derwent House fitted our requirements perfectly. The house is very well appointed with plenty of finishing touches way beyond what is normally expected of a holiday let (fresh flowers, a well stocked larder of herbs and spices as well as foil, clingfilm etc). There is good WIFI and very good TV, DVD and sound equipment. All of the bedrooms were very comfortable and the cooking facilities were excellent for a large party.

The house is well located within easy walking distance of the town centre so that there was no worry about having to pick designated drivers but it is only a mater of a few minutes walk into open countryside. The proprietor Damien was extremely helpful and we would strongly recommend this house for a group get together.

Excellent Holiday Accommodation

Derwent House provides excellent holiday accommodation in a quiet location near the centre of Matlock. We appreciated the efficient heating, a log burner (wood provided) and a utility with space to dry wet outdoor clothes. Vases of fresh flowers in the reception rooms and teddy bears on the beds were a nice touch. The large kitchen is extremely well equipped with a good range of utensils. There is an ample supply of books, games, DVD's and CD's in the cosy snug. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this very comfortable house; we would definitely return and recommend to others.

One to go back to!

This is our 2nd stay in this beautiful house and we have already booked our next trip. This is definitely home from home with everything you need for a perfect stay. So comfortable and very clean. You won’t be disappointed. We love it!

Perfect weekend

5 star recommendation for this wonderful house in Matlock. It is perfectly located on a quiet road by a lovely park and is a short walk into town. The rental was spotlessly clean and the addition of fresh flowers and yummy biscuits on arrival was a lovely personal touch. I definitely recommend Derwent House!

Fabulous home and child friendly

We were visiting family in England and wanted a house that would fit 8 adults and 3 young children. We couldn't have been more pleased with this house. This house is well equipped and spacious. Great kitchen with large refrigerator and lots of cookware, washer and dryer, cupboards full of games, and beautiful bedrooms. Little patio was very pleasant with beautiful flowers. Stairways had kid gates which was great with our 2 one-year olds. Five of the 6 bedrooms had an en suite and all very up to date. The house has beautiful touches throughout. A bonus was the large park just a few feet from the house. The kids were well entertained. We did not use our car the entire time as anything we needed was in walking distance. Love, love, love this place and it is highly recommended.

Perfect!

This was the family's second visit to Derwent House, this was better than the first time only because of better weather, the house cannot be improved on. It is so well equipped, the kitchen is large with every appliance you could think of and includes everyday items missing from most rentals (tea, coffee, milk, sugar and a range of cooking items such as flour, oil etc). All six bedrooms are spacious as is the family bathroom. The range of DVDs, CDs, games and toys are available for indifferent weather. There were fresh flowers in the main rooms and the "dressing" of the house with pictures, busts etc adds to the interest in the aged property. Our family consists of Mum and Dad, three sons with partners and three grandchildren and we had plenty of room to play and socialise. Great place - we will return again.

Family Gathering

“All together in one place for the first time in many moons for 80th and 40th birthdays. What a super weekend we have had. Great house in a very beautiful part of Derbyshire. Lots to do and not enough time for all we wanted to do. Very many thanks go to the hosts for preparing a wonderful house for us. Everything we could need and wish for in one place. Not a utensil forgotten. We shall definitely come again.”

Family Holiday

Family holiday, September 2021
“A beautiful Georgian house in an ideal quiet location. Decor and furnishings in keeping with the Georgian period. The owners were really accommodating in letting us postpone our booking twice because of the Covid restrictions. I have never stayed in a holiday house so well equipped and the owners went to great lengths to make sure we were happy with everything. Our party comprised of adults and small children, who were entertained by the splash pool and playground in the adjoining park. We also visited the Heights of Abraham and the children loved the cable car, playgrounds and caverns. We also used Glendon House Bed and Breakfast next door which belongs to the same owners. Again, faultless and the breakfast was very good.”

Group of friends

“Home from home! So good to be back. Another wonderful stay at Derwent House with a group of friends. The house is perfectly located with pubs, parks and shops all within close proximity. The house is beautifully decorated but in keeping with its history. We were pleased to see some new additions like new bathrooms and a decorated lounge. The kitchen is perfect for a relaxed meal and chatting whilst meal prepping. The lounge is big enough for everyone to sit. The owners are really helpful and also leave some nice welcome gifts and all the basics.”

Fantastic place, great for dining, chatting and relaxing together. Can we please take the beds with us as they so comfortable!"

Birthday gathering

"Fabulous property to celebrate 60th Birthday

Great place to celebrate my husband 60th birthday with 8 friends. Very tastefully decorated, plenty of space and well equipped in the kitchen for self catering. Matlock has a lot to offer for walking, sightseeing and eating out, which is on the door step. We would all definitely go back and stay in Derwent House in the future."

We stayed at Derwent House for a family group of 10 adults and 1 toddler. It was the perfect place for us.Located on a quiet cul-de-sac next to a lovely park which A great space for children and an easy walk for us into Matlock.

The house was beautiful with plenty of room for us all.The beds were so comfortable with lovely quality linen and towels and the ensuites meant no queuing for showers. The hosts were easy to keep in touch with if we needed to and made us feel extremely welcome. We definitely would like to book a return visit and would recommend Derwent House as great place to stay.

Birthday celebration

“Perfect house for a gathering of friends to celebrate my 50th year. Ideal location and setting, the web pictures don’t do it justice. Would absolutely recommend to anyone visiting the Peak District. Even storm Dennis didn’t dampen things!”

Group of friends

“We had a wonderful weekend, the house is beautiful, big, well-equipped and very tastefully decorated. The roll top bath was amazing. We were a group of 12 friends and we had plenty of room to socialise and to eat together in the dining room. The log burner was also a lovely touch especially as we were here in very wild, wet and windy weather.”

DD

Beautiful property

“Derwent House is a truly beautiful property. There were 10 of us ( friends for 50 years) staying over the New Year and it was a really joyful occasion. The house was very well equipped, warm, comfortable and easy to manage. There was so much to do around Matlock and when we came back it meant we could relax and have conversations all together in the large and well-appointed rooms. All in all it could not have been better and was perfect for our purposes.”

First class, large Georgian house for up to 12 adults

Derwent House exceeded expectations. Location is great, right by the park and waters edge. Damien is a professional, understated host and provides any help required pre booking, post booking and during the stay. The equipment, bedding, decor, cleanliness are all top notch. We had a house party for 4 days for my husband’s 70th. It was perfect.”

Celebration

What an amazing place to gather for my husband’s 70th birthday. The house was so welcoming. The location is superb and the facilities are amazing. The weekend could not have been bettered and we will be back. Lovely home form home. You have thought of everything. A big thank you.

Fabulous home from home

We stayed here for a week to celebrate my parents' golden wedding and had an open house one day for around 30 guests. The house is beautiful. Damien was wonderful, helping to arrange flowers, advise on caterers and generally make sure everyone had a great time. There is a fantastic park right next to the property and the children were able to go on a miniature train and boating lake there. There is also a delightful riverside walk straight out of the front door. The property is extremely well equipped, right down to catering size cling film and foil, which came in handy! We all felt very lucky to have found the perfect place for this special occasion. Thank you!!

Peak Gem

Derwent House is a peak gem with it luxurious décor and comfort. It enabled our three families to reunite and enjoy a relaxed and fun holiday. There are so many thoughtful touches, such as the herbs and spices, leaf tea, fresh coffee and a range of equipment. Everything we needed was here. We loved the grandeur of the big dining table, the lovely showers, the charming and comfortable lounge, the laundry facilities, and the large kitchen for cooking gathered around the kitchen table, the hub of the home. This made for a great gettogether and we will recommend it to all our friends.

Great Birthday Weekend

Thank you for a wonderful house to spend our weekend. Extended family of 11 on a celebration/birthday weekend. The house is superbly appointed, even down to fresh flowers everywhere. Spices etc there to use. Well equipped kitchen with everything you needed. Comfy bed and fluffy towels. Close to town for restaurants and park, and close to the major Peak District attractions. Even the weather was good.

Perfect House in a Fabulous Location

This was our second time at Derwent House and I'm sure we'll be booking again. It's a lovely house in a lovely spot and is beautifully presented. Lots of space, plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms, a delightful park just outside and a short walk to shops and restaurants. Just what you need for a big get together - highly recommended.

A perfect place to stay

Derwent House has everything you could possibly need. It is superbly equipped throughout, very clean and extremely comfortable and warm. Very spacious too. We had five under fives with us and there was plenty of room for them to play and they loved exploring the house.

There is no back garden, just a courtyard but it really doesn't matter as the park is a just a stone's throw away. And we really liked that we could just walk to the shops or for something to eat (although we didn't actually sample the local cuisine on this occasion - next time).

We would definitely like to return.

Amazing

All the rooms are tastefully decorated and our en suite room was no exception the bed was very comfortable and the little extras a nice touch. We have booked to go back again next year and we can't wait I strongly advise you to stay at this property you will not be disappointed I promise you. The fresh flowers placed all around the house are a lovely touch too.

Perfect in every way

Got married in Bakewell on Saturday 21/11/2015 and as this our wedding was a small intimate affair, Derwent House was perfect for ourselves and main guests.
From the moment we entered, we all felt completely relaxed and at ease. We all felt like excited children, exploring the house and spent a great deal of time checking out all the rooms. All of the rooms are tastefully decorated and many had fresh flowers as an added touch.
Everything you could possibly want was there, especially in the kitchen where every tool, utensil and gadget was available. Loved watching the squirrels in the park across the road, relaxing in the lounge in front of the log burner and the whole family gathering in the kitchen for breakfast together. Every one of my guests has fell in love with this property and can't stop talking about what a fantastic time they spent there. I cannot stress enough how perfect the house is, and we are so happy that we chose Derwent House to celebrate such an important day in our lives. Thank you Damien for everything, can't wait to return!

Fantastic property close to local amenities

A group of us booked the property for our annual get together. The property surpassed our expectations. The kitchen was extremely well -equipped with everything needed to produce a gourmet meal. Also plenty of fridge and freezer space with a great range cooker.
The lounge was comfortable and well furnished with lovely blinds and cushions. Unfortunately we didn't get the opportunity to light the fire due to fantastic October weather. The dining room was recently decorated and was lovely and light with wood panelling and a stunning dining table. There were fresh flowers in most of the downstairs room which was a lovely touch. Great Wi-Fi for those who needed it.
The beds were really comfortable with good quality cotton sheets. Towels and toiletries were provided in each of the bathrooms.
Damien was really helpful and got us cut price tickets for Chatsworth. His website had loads of useful information and links to local restaurants. He has responded to feedback from guests to improve the guest experience at Derwent House
We will be back next year!

Everything we wanted and more

The service from Damien was spot on. he rang to give me details of arrival the day before and during our stay we were provided with concession price tickets for Chatsworth house, saving us at least

Beautiful House

Beautiful property, homely, very clean and very well appointed. Very comfortable for 12 with plenty of space all round. Great layout and well stocked kitchen. Great hosts who made it all very easy. Located very close to the town centre and park. Looking forward to a return visit.

Beautiful family Christmas

We had an amazing family Christmas in Derwent House. The house easily accommodated 8 adults (four couples), 2 toddlers and 1 dog. Everything about the house was outstanding. The downstairs space with the huge lounge for present unwrapping on Christmas morning; the side lounge - for those who wanted a smaller space to relax; the large kitchen and dining area where everyone could grab breakfast and lunch when they wanted; the grand dining room where we could all sit and have dinner together in the evening; the 6 bedrooms all decorated with their own character; and finally the opportunity to just walk out the front door and have a 1 minute walk to the park or the town centre.

Derwent House is as stunning as it looks on the website. Our family travelled from all over the UK and I remember receiving a text from my sister who arrived first which simply said 'The house is absolutely stunning'. The owner is also a great host and very friendly, and takes great pride in all the details / decor / facilities - which make your stay so special. Derwent House is a very special place for a holiday.

Fantastic venue for our weekend with friends

Our second visit to Derwent House. The venue is perfect for our group of friends. Plenty of space with well furnished and well decorated rooms. The beds are comfortable and the bed linens and duvets are of really good quality and the fresh flowers are a lovely touch. The kitchen is well equipped and we produced a Sunday lunch worthy of the magnificent dining room. We noticed the changes made since our last visit and the hosts strive to continually make the property more appealing and comfortable for the guests. We love being able to walk into the town for eating and drinking, no taxis or designated drivers and the house is situated in a lovely part of the town near the river and the park. The men in our party visited the local football ground and had an enyoyable afternoon watching Matlock Town we also visited Haddon Hall.
Loads to do. In the local area, a great spot and a lovely venue.

Happy family gathering

Derwent House is a lovely, well appointed, spacious venue for a family gathering. With an age range from 2 to 70 the house provided everything necessary for a happy long weekend with room to lounge, to play, to cook and gather together round the kitchen table or party round the dining room table. The children made good use of the generous supply of games and books when it rained and we made regular visits to the fantastic Hall Leys Park which was literally a 2 minute stroll from the front door when the sun peeped out. The kitchen is a pleasure to use with everything arranged intuitively so that you could always source what was needed quickly and it did really have everything that could be needed. We used an outside caterer for the main celebration meal but when we go back again, which I'm sure we will, I'll happily use the kitchen because it is 'cook friendly'. The bedrooms were good and the beds high quality. There are easy to use stair gates top and bottom of main staircase. The road outside is a cul-de-sac so no traffic noise. The wifi was good. I think I've covered enough ground here to show our family's approval!
