The Byre

Looking for a farm cottage where your family can relax in the Cumbrian countryside? The Byre in the remote rural hamlet of Milton, Cumbria, nestled in the North Pennines with three national parks just a short drive away, makes the perfect rural retreat, away from the crowds but still within easy reach of The Lake District.

This child-friendly cottage features a ground-floor, open-plan living area with a fully fitted kitchen, dining area and a sitting room with a wood burner. It has a spacious main bedroom with exposed crook beams left over from its previous life as a dairy barn, a smaller bedroom, a bathroom with bath and shower cubicle, and broadband WiFi coverage throughout.

Guests have access to a shared-use hot tub and summerhouse year-round for a small weekly fee, and pets are welcome for a small fee. The Byre also has an enclosed garden and a delightful furnished decked area with a barbecue that provides spectacular views of the adjoining countryside.

The rural holiday cottage in Cumbria is just two miles from the historic market town of Brampton, granted a charter by King Henry III in 1252. A few miles away lies Hadrian’s Wall, which marked the northwest boundary of the Roman Empire, as well as Talkin Tarn Country Park and its 10,000-year-old glacial lake. You can explore the picturesque Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks within a short drive.

very comfortable and equipped,nice welcome

the byre was clean and cosy and we were made most welcome with our dog.we did not find the railway a problem at all,but the close loation to the main road was a wee bit disconcerting when walking the dog early morning and evening.the pavement tends to be non existant in places.

The cottage was very comfortable and well equipped and a nice bottle of wine was in the fridge to welcome us. Walked the dog every morning at Talkin Tarn which is a five minute drive away.

Mrs Wright

Great holiday with a excellent cottage. Looking to book up next year!

Mr Smith

The location and the property were perfect for us. The wood burner and logs made it feel so homely. The decking was lovely, the gardens leading to the property a picture. The bathroom had a huge bath and separate shower. A welcome of milk and wine along with a basket of logs were provided.

Miss Harper

I was super impressed with this cottage the pictures really don't do it justice. The lady who owns the property was fantastic; even though it was late at night she had lit the fire for us and waited up to give us the key. I did not want to leave it was so cosy. Thanks.

Miss Atha

Mr Darchambaud

Lovely welcome from the owner. Lots of local information was given. Loved the stove in the sitting room - very cosy. Overall this property is an ideal place for anyone who wants to get away from it all.

Mr Farthing

The location of the cottage was very good as it was near Hadrian's Wall which we wanted to explore.

This holiday was full of relaxation, and this was due to the friendliness and helpfulness of the owners; they were fantastic. The place itself was great, and we cannot wait to come back and spend some more time exploring the lovely surroundings.

Miss Musson

Everything was as advertised, the owners were friendly and the accommodation was nice and kept in good order. The hot tub was a nice touch. All in all an enjoyable experience.

Mrs Blake

We loved the fact that even though we managed to pick one of the worst weekends for weather, we still managed to have a lovely time. The log burner in the living room was lovely, and there is a new tv which accepts usb for films. Also next to the hot tub is a little hut, with jigsaws, dvd's and a cross trainer. We will definitely be returning"

Miss Greenhalgh

We had a great weekend, greeted on arrival, the wood burner was already on so was lovely and warm. The cottage was close to the big Talkin Tarn country park which we walked a few times, the dogs loved it.
We will be back because this was an ideal location for us.

Mrs Borthwick

We arrived to an open fire on a cold night which was lovely, the owner gave us some local walks, shops and site-seeing information which was greatly appreciated. The cottage was clean, tidy and warm - we had a great holiday with lovely walks, with our dog, in the forest across the road.

Mrs Moore

Loved the log fire and the hot tub and how spacious the rooms were. A very relaxing time.

Miss Smith

Loved the wood burning stove and hot tub. The owner was lovely and welcoming and her knowledge of places of local interest was excellent. Cranstons in Brampton nearby was a first class butcher. His fillet steaks and duck breasts in spicy plum sauce were the best. We were very close to the hot tub and being in close proximity to Hadrian's Wall and the Lakes made it perfect place to stay.

Mrs Pearson

Loved the hot tub. and the cottage was lovely. Easy access to loads of attractions. Very welcoming - felt like home.

Mrs Gordon

It was a lovely cottage with extremely comfortable beds. Beautifully clean upon arrival and a good amount of space generally.

Mrs Trivett

It was a lovely comfortable cottage and the travel around the region was good. We got to see many more places than I expected when planning the holiday.

Mr Jackson

Loved it all, will visit again.

Miss McNally

The owners were a delightful couple and were very concerned that we had all our requirements met. They were also keen to give us the benefit of their knowledge of the area. The cottage was extremely comfortable and the beds were great. The surrounding countryside was beautiful and there were plenty of opportunities for long walks.

Ms Roland

The accommodation was fantastic, warm and comfortable. The hot tub was amazingly hot and clean, we were in it every night, even the snow didn't put us off. There was lots to see and do in the area and a very good taxi service close to hand to take us back from being in the pub. We will be going back in the summer I hope.
