Book Self-Catering Cottage Holidays in Rothesay

Rothesay is a classic Victorian resort on the Isle of Bute in Scotland. It lies on the craggy coast of the Firth of Clyde with a backdrop of forests and hills and spectacular views across the water towards Loch Striven. The town centre will be a stroll away from most holiday cottages in Rothesay. The old town is centred around the ruins of a 13th-century castle, with lovely gardens and unique architecture, such as the Isle of Bute Discovery Centre, a circular building of cast iron and glass, which is now home to a theatre and cinema. As you explore Rothesay’s seafront squares and art deco pavilion, it is easy to see why it is such a long-running favourite among Scottish holidaymakers. The town has undergone an exciting regeneration in recent years, with Victorian shops turned into boutiques and upcycled furniture emporiums alongside traditional cafes and pubs. Look out for Musicker, a vegetarian café selling books and guitars, Print Point, a book shop where you can enjoy a good cup of coffee, and the Bute Brew Company for locally brewed beer. Head to Macqueen’s Butchers on Bishop Street for the finest Bute meat. Nearby, Ritchie’s sells delicious smoked fish and cheese. The Isle of Bute is blessed with pristine sandy beaches, such as Ettrick Bay, a short drive north of Rothesay, through Port Bannatyne.
