Find My Favourite Holiday Cottages in Georgeham

Georgeham holiday cottages are perfect for visitors looking for a peaceful base in rural North Devon, with easy access to the coast. This unspoiled village is surrounded by gently rolling hills and farmland, a mile inland from Croyde and eight miles west of the market town of Barnstaple. Despite its proximity to the popular sandy beaches of Croyde, Woolacombe and Saunton, Georgeham hasn’t lost the feel of a traditional rural community. A graceful medieval church stands in the heart of the village overlooking a tangle of narrow streets lined with historic thatched cottages. There’s a small grocery and post office stocked with a variety of local products and two lovely old pubs, the King’s Arms and the Rock Inn. Both will be a short stroll from your holiday cottage in Georgeham, with local ciders, ales and delicious food prepared with fresh, seasonal ingredients from the surrounding fields.

Croyde Bay is a dramatic sweep of golden sand, backed by dunes and framed by rocky headlands which jut into the Atlantic. Whether you want to take surfing lessons, swim or while away an afternoon building sandcastles, it is undoubtedly one of the area’s most beautiful spots. A short drive down the hill, the village of Croyde is home to surf shops, pubs, cafes, and one of the region’s premier surf spots. Just to the north, Putsborough is another sandy beach with a café overlooking the sea. From Putsborough, you can walk to the village of Woolacombe along the sand or through the dunes. To the south of Croyde, Saunton is a wide, open beach that stretches southward as far as the eye can see.

Self-catering holidays in Georgeham are also well-positioned for exploring the wild, windswept landscapes of the Exmoor National Park. Head east from your holiday cottage and soon find yourself on high, heather-covered moors frequented by wild ponies and deer. Do not miss the villages of Lynton and Lynmouth, where grand hotels cling to the sides of a steep, wooded valley overlooking a rocky bay and harbour.
