Tyne & Wear

Enjoy the warmest of friendly welcomes when you visit this lovely county and try a North East holiday cottage in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Gateshead and go shopping in the largest shopping centre in Europe - the Metro Centre. Other not-to-be missed Gateshead experiences are the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, the Sage Gateshead venue where world-class music can be heard, from classical to indie, and the huge "light-art" exotic display, Nocturne, which illuminates one of the county's major bridges, the QE II Metro.

Another bridge to look out for is the Gateshead Millenium Bridge (be there in time to watch it being opened by the original "blinking eye" technology). Following the river to the flawless coastline bordered by Sunderland city, South Shields, Whitley Bay and Tynemouth, Roker, Seaburn, Cullercoats, King Edward's Bay, Marsden Bay and the Leas; you will surely find your favourite village from which you can enjoy cliff-walking and water sports.

And whether it's on the way in, or on the way out of this diverse area, stop to marvel at the "Angel of the North", built by the sculptor, Anthony Gormley using 200 tonnes of steel.
