  • "The most amazing cottage, the photos do not do this place justice."

    It is immaculately clean, the comfiest beds, warm and cosy (we didn’t have the best weather so was lovely to come back to at the end of the day. Surrounded by sheep/rabbits and so peaceful. Catriona (although we didn’t have the pleasure to meet her) gave us really helpful information by text and was quick at responding if we had any questions. House had absolutely everything you could need plus more , beds were so comfortable and the mezzanine room has skylights to view the stars . What an amazing place and if we return to Skye will definitely stay here again. Probably the best cottage have stayed in. Stayed with my sister but easily could accommodate a family with a lot of space Paula and Donna

The property

Situated in the scattered and isolated crofting township of Conista, within the surrounds of Duntulm, in the far north of the Trotternish Peninsula of Skye, Ridge End Cottage enjoys spectacular views over tranquil crofts to the sea and distant mountains.

Unusually designed, the traditional, whitewashed exterior of this detached cottage belies its modern décor, with a cathedral ceiling and a mezzanine bedroom.

The high standard of craftsmanship, cosy furnishings and amount of wood used give a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

With great hill and coastal walking, and boat trips nearby, the cottage is an ideal wildlife and birdwatcher's retreat.

The elusive corncrake inhabits a number of crofting meadows nearby, and a sighting of the rare merlin is possible.

Along the seashore and lochs, otters and seals patrol the sheltered bays.

Seabirds including diving gannets, cormorants, guillemots and puffins abound.

A stay at Ridge End Cottage promises to be a memorable holiday indeed.

Where you’ll be staying

CONISTA

Staffin 6 miles; Uig 10 miles; Portree 25 miles.

Comprising of a few, traditionally whitewashed cottages, the scattered crofting township of Conista is situated within the area known as Duntulm, on the Trotternish Peninsula in the far north of the Isle of Skye. Duntulm is named after a steep rocky headland where the ruins of Duntulm Castle can be clearly seen. Conista is 10 miles from the village of Uig - the gateway port to the Outer Hebrides - and 6 miles from the village of Staffin. Both Staffin and Uig offer a small range of shops and local amenities. Trotternish is the northern peninsula of Skye, dominated by the Trotternish Ridge ranging from the imposing monolith of the 'Old Man of Storr' to the geological phenomenon that is the Quirang. The area offers excellent walking country, boasting breath-taking views including the Kilt Rock viewpoint, to the south of Staffin, with its dramatic waterfall. Many seabirds use the steep cliffs here in early summer, including the Fulmar, often seen circling the cliff tops at eye level. A fantastic location for exploring this mystical Isle.
