Find My Favourite Holiday Cottages in Linlithgow

Linlithgow is a serene town located by a loch, just 20 minutes away from the bustling city centre of Edinburgh. Visitors who book a holiday house in and around the town will discover its rich historical importance. Linlithgow Palace, a magnificent structure that was the ancestral home of the Stuart Kings and the birthplace of Queen Mary of Scotland, is a must-visit attraction. It is situated in a beautiful park beside the loch and is open to visitors. Other historical houses worth exploring include Blackness Castle, located on the shores of the River Forth, and the House of the Binns, which used to be the home of a prosperous 17th-century merchant. For those seeking an active self-catering holiday and water sports on the loch, the town has a leisure centre with a climbing wall, and the Kingsfield Golf Centre is easily accessible for excellent golfing.

If you're interested in heritage, I highly recommend visiting the Linlithgow Canal Centre on the Union Canal. You can take boat trips on restored narrow boats here. Moving further down the canal is the Falkirk Wheel, an impressive boat lift that is the world's first and now the only rotating one. You can also take a trip on a steam train at the Scottish Railway Preservation Society in Bo-ness or visit an old mine at the Birkhill Clay Mine. The Bo-ness Motor Museum is perfect for petrolheads and features exhibits such as James Bond's BMW 750 from "Tomorrow Never Dies", a Harry Potter car, a hoverbike from Thunderbirds, and Dr Who's Tardis.

The town has a diverse range of shops, galleries, cafes, and restaurants to suit everyone's tastes. Families can enjoy the Heritage and Spy trails or the Willow Maze on the grounds of the town's museum.

The town hosts various festivals and events throughout the year. Culture lovers can participate in the Civic Festival, which features traditional Scottish arts in June, the folk festival in September, the arts festival in October, and the book festival in November.
